The AMASDF 2015 Scholarship Holders
The Amelia McGuiness Australian Snowsports Development Foundation (AMASDF) is recognised and commended throughout the snowsports community for its support of up-and-coming athletes. In the 6 years since the Foundation was established in honour of Amelia McGuiness, a gifted athlete and student, the committee has awarded $164, 750 in Snowsports Scholarships. This has been achieved with the ongoing support of individuals and the business community.
AMASDF is dedicated to identifying athletes that have the required attributes to make it as an elite athlete in this highly competitive sport. Recognition is made with the advice and support of NSW Snowsports Discipline Committees, Head Coaches, Olympians, and others who have have firsthand experience and understanding of the determination, dedication, and sacrifices required for a snowsports athlete travelling the pathway towards representing Australia.
In our sixth year of operation, the AMASDF received 89 applications requesting assistance for young athletes from NSW, ACT, and QLD.
In determining the grant recipients for 2015/16, the committee reflected upon each individual’s performance levels; their potential for achievement over the next 12 months; and the quality of the application. Outstanding athletes were identified by their record of achievement, dedication to their chosen discipline, and commitment to their overall development.
For 2015/16, the AMASDF has allocated $4,800 to 10 Alpine and S/X athletes; $3,000 to 8 Snowboard athletes; $1,800 to 4 Freestyle athletes, $1,800 to 3 Cross-Country athletes and $500 to 1 Para-athlete. The AMASDF would like to acknowledge and thank the NSW Freestyle committee who matched the $1,800 allocated to Freestyle, providing extra support to the awarded Freestyle athletes. In total, AMASDF awarded $13,700.00 to 26 athletes.
As the AMASDF continues to grow, the committee will look at new ways to build the scholarship revenue over the next 12 months. AMASDF encourages all snowsports athletes, families, and the wider snowsports community to support the AMASDF.
