Format:

Finals for swimmers qualifying at Division Championships.

Competition Format:

Competing swimmers and divers must be bona-fide students, under the age of 21 years as at 31 December in the year of competition, attending Secondary schools affiliated with the SSV – Southern Metropolitan Region and nominated by their Divisions.

The highest 4 qualifiers in each event from the South West swimming and the highest 4 qualifiers in each event from the Geelong swimming competitions will gain qualification into the BSW swimming championships.

Competitors must report to the Marshalling area of the pool at least 20 minutes before the scheduled time of their event or as called.

Competitors may compete in only ONE age group for which they are eligible. They may however compete in any Open event.  Also, 12-13 year old students must compete in the 14 year old Medley Relay and Diving; 15 year old students must compete in the 16 year old Medley Relay and Diving; and 17 year old students must compete in the 18-20 year old Medley Relay and Diving.  12-13 year old and 14 year old students must compete in the 12-15 year old Individual medley and 12-15 year old 200m. events.

Note: once a student has competed in an age group at division level he/she must remain in that age group through to state level in that sport.

A competitor may compete in a maximum of 5 individual swimming events, two relays and 1 diving event.

Relay team members of each relay must be members of the same school.

All schools should be aware that program times are a guide only.  Competitors should arrive in plenty of time for their events.

Swimmers must remain in water until instructed to leave by the referee.

While schools may replace Relay competitors up to the event with eligible students, all changes to individual event competitors must be made by the relevant Division Coordinator and be communicated to the Region Coordinator at least two school days before the championships.  No changes can be made after this time and students who compete in breach of this condition will be disqualified.

Events are conducted using the ‘No False Starts Rule’.

A medal will be awarded to the best performed competitor in each age group and be known as the Age Group Champion.  If a tie occurs in the Age Group Champion award then a medal is to be awarded to each student, even if one student competed in more events than the other student.
