Foote leaps for world titles

AFTER securing her first Australian Athletics National Title last month, Wynn Vale heptathlete Lauren Foote says she is ready to make a name for herself on the world stage.

The 24-year-old will compete in the World University Games in Serbia in July and then has her sights set on the Commonwealth Games, in India.

“I’m aiming for the Commonwealth Games next year and then the World Championships the year after that,” she said.

“Then (the 2012) London (Olympics) of course.”

Foote needed to tally 5900 points across the seven events to qualify for this year’s World Championships in Berlin, but missed out by 203 points.

A chaplain at Gepps Cross Girls High School, Foote completed a masters degree in Counselling Studies at UniSA last year, qualifying her for the Uni Games.

“You have to either be studying or have finished a degree in the previous 12 months. I can’t wait to go. It’s second only to the Olympics in terms of size.”
