My History
I joined Enfield Harriers in 1974 at the age of 8 and I am still competing today. Back then there was a separate under 15 competition that was run on Saturday mornings at Olympic Sports Field at Kensington, before the afternoon Senior Competition. My older Brother and Sister joined a year earlier and I was very keen to get involved. I was not a great athlete in any one event, I had natural endurance and could run distances up to 5,000m, I was fairly good at the Discus, Triple Jump, High Jump and in my mid teens had a go at Pole Vault which seemed easier than what people led me to believe. My whole family competed in Winter and Summer seasons and Mum excelled at the Walks and was President and is a Life Member of the Club. At the age of 16 I started playing Rugby League in the Winter and did mainly field events in the Summer.
I was presented with Life Membership in my mid 20’s and started getting involved with coaching field events. In 1993 I coached Golden Grove Little Athletics Club and in 1994 I completed the Level 1 Coaching Course in Jumps.
In 1996 I videoed a High Jumper I had prepared to win her first National Medal in Perth at The Pacific School Games in the High Jump Competition. Since then I have watched and videoed athletes all over
My most prestigious honour was to win the Open State Decathlon Tittle 3 years straight from 1997 to 1999. Since then I have not improved in athletic performance and have been happy to compete in the Australian Masters Games where I enjoyed winning 10 Gold at the 2005 Games. I am not planning to retire from competitions as I feel it is a great way to be in touch with the events I coach, and the feelings that athletes go through in championships. I am planning to enter more events when I compete in the next Australian Masters Games and I hope to improve my medal tally.
I became the President of the Club near the end of the century and at the same time became very active in applying for Grants to get better equipment and new clubrooms. I also became
