Life Members



The long standing and wide-ranging contributions of three stalwarts of South Australian Athletics were recognised at Athletics SA’s Annual General Meeting on Monday night.

 Joe Stevens, Graham Billet and Rosemary Billet will receive Life Membership in acknowledgement of their exceptional contribution to athletics in South Australia.

Presently active as the President of Athletics SA, Joe Stevens was nominated by Western Districts Athletic Club for his extensive involvement as an athlete, official and administrator since 1964. After competing with success for Catholic Collegians AC until 1969, Joe returned to athletics in 1998 as an Official –  winning the Athletics Australia Official of the Year award in 2011/12. In 2001 Joe was elected to the Board of Athletics South Australia and has served on the Board ever since.

Graham Billet receives his life membership for his exceptional service to South Australian Athletics is his roles as an Official, committee, and Board member.  A member of the Enfield Harrier Amateur Athletics Club (EHAAC) since 1995, Graham begun officiating with ASA in 1999 – becoming an Athletics Australia graded official in 2000.  As a Certified Practising Accountant, Graham used his expertise to benefit athletics at a club, official and Association level. In 2004, he was elected to the Board of ASA to fulfil the role of Finance Director – a position he continues to hold today.

Rosemary Billet will be awarded Life Membership in recognition of her 19-year association with Athletics in South Australia. After joining EHAAC in 1994, Rosemary became an A Grade Athletics Australia throws official in 1998 before receiving an AA grading in jumps in 2009. From 1998 to 2010, Rosemary held the position of ASA volunteer receptionist – a wide ranging undertaking that included processing athlete registrations and assisting with presentation evenings
