Enfield World Junior - Kate Shierlaw

In the interest of developing the future of the sport through international experiences, the Athletics Australia High Performance staff asked that the selectors review the team for the IAAF World Junior Championships in Poland in August.

Peter Fitzgerald, Chairman of Selectors and his team considered the request and decided to use the overriding discretion set out in clause 8 of the selection policy to add Kate Shierlaw (javelin). Kate had a fantastic domestic season and managed one world junior qualifying throw.

The additional athletes will take the Australian contingent to 31 athletes and with a Commonwealth Youth Games squad of 30 athletes to be named in the next few weeks, more than 60 athletes from the ages of 16 to 19 will have a significant International experience in 2008. The development pathway for young track and field athletes is structured to provide a range of experiences suited to the varying development levels and aims to give talented juniors the support necessary to keep them in the sport and assist them to take the step up to senior competition

Congratulations Kate!
