A Grade, Can we work as a Team?

Work has started on our finals teams for A Grade in both the Men and Women as we have been dominating the top positions so far this year.  The Teams are an ongoing process as the season unfolds and as athletes demonstrate their abilities to rise on the club rankings.

The A Grade Summer Teams are the Highest Grade of Team Performance in this State and are very difficult to win. This year on paper our Women have a better chance of winning than our Men.  The Team has to be totally sorted out early, and everyone has to know the Date Time and Importance of looking after the Team to win.  In this Team event, if you are selected and then you find you are not available, you will need to let the Team Manager know so that we can put someone else into your position.  We have a depth of over 8 competitors in some events and in only a few events are we lacking competitors.  The Men’s Race Walking is the only event that is totally lacking competitors and I am not sure if this will change by the end of the season.

The Final Team is made up from the top 2 athletes in each event, and each individual can only do 4 events plus a relay on each day of the finals.  The Manager may select the 3rd or 4th best athlete to avoid clashing events and the selection for relays may also change to give the best result.

At the moment we are looking to possibly field Over 35 Teams, Men’s U14 and Women’s U16 Teams.  Some athletes may do events in different teams, but the main focus is putting the best A Grade Team together.  We have a great line up this year with some very handy athletes, so to make the Team you will need to look at the sheets displayed at Interclub or look on the ASA website and work towards being in the top 2 athletes from Enfield.  If you do not get into the Final Team, your input to the winning A Grade Team will still be recognised in a point count at the Club Presentation at the end of the season.

Finals are held on the 8th (Program A) and 9th (Program B) of March 2008.
