Brooke Billett - It's Over

Enfield Harriers' international athlete Brooke Billett has announced her retirement from the sport of athletics. She is currently at home recovering from surgery to fix a shoulder injury and carpal tunnel in her right arm. Brooke will also undergo further surgery in the coming months to fix compartment syndrome which she has in both legs.

The continual injuries Brooke has faced has prompted her to consider her time in the sport. Brooke has the ability and determination needed to succeed at international levels, but unfortunately her body will not allow her to make the next step required. As a result, on Sunday March 25, Brooke made the decision with her coach and husband to retire from the sport of hammer throwing.

Brooke has had a decorated athletic career, which culminated in February 2000, where Brooke became only the 7th Australian to throw over 60m and broke 70m for the first time; throwing 70.72 to win her second national title. In March she threw 67.90m at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games to take gold.
