"A gold-medal performance at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne last year thrust Brooke Krueger-Billett into the international spotlight. The junior primary teacher from Dernancourt Primary School won a gold medal in the hammer-throw event. In front of 80,000 people, the champion athlete broke a Games record with a throw of 67.9m. She beat a field of 12, including Manchester gold-medallist Lorraine Shaw of England to win the event."
