Successful Active Clubs Grant

Success!

The Enfield Harriers committee has recently been successful with the latest round of the Active clubs grant. The club was granted $8,650 to assist with the purchase of sporting equipment. Thanks to Ameila Boylan, Wayne Willis, Darren Billett for spending the time to apply for the grant. Thanks also goes to ASA CEO Adam Bishop for his letter of support towards the project.

What is the project?

The membership at Enfield Harriers Athletics has an increased number of junior members, especially females training at the club. With this increase, we would like to be able to provide safe equipment that suits junior fitness and strength levels. Gyms are often senior, male orientated with big weights, which can intimidate female and junior athletes. Enfield Harriers Athletics is an all inclusive athletics club and we plan to introduce a new gym area to the facility which contains a diverse range of equipment suitable to junior and female members training at our club.

It has been identified that some of the clubs javelins have become damaged and are required to be replaced.

Enfield Harriers would like to promote the sport of athletics to the local community. A noticeboard in the club room window would show case our club and facilities to the general public to capture a larger grassroots membership. Multiple signs on the oval would advertise the club to provide people visiting the oval with further information and details on how to join the club

Why did we want to do this project?

Athletics is not a high profile sport in Adelaide and we hope that by providing a range of equipment and training opportunities we will be able to encourage people to participate in athletics and to become active. Enfield Harriers Athletics is continually trying to drive and improve athletics in South Australia. We are an all inclusive club that not only focuses on the elite end of athletics, but also on social fitness. The clubs goal is to provide training facilities suitable for both genders at all stages of life, fitness and activity. We want to be able to provide facilities to give every member the best opportunity to achieve their best, whether this is for fitness, at school sports days, interclub athletics, national championships, Commonwealth Games or even Olympic Games. The addition to the gym will provide junior and female athletes with suitable fitness equipment. This will also have the potential to attract new members to the club and we can continue trying to get the community active. Strengthening a local athletic club will strengthen athletics in South Australia.

Throwing a damaged javelin can result in an arm, shoulder of hand injury. The replacement of these implements will ensure that all members will have safe equipment to use.

A lot of different ethnic community groups and general public use St Albans Reserve. A noticeboard and oval signs will assist in promoting the sport of athletics to the community. The community needs to be educated on what is available and we can then promote athletics as an Olympic Sport with a pathway that starts with being active in a local club.

Over the coming months the grant will be used to purchase the identified equipment. This latest grant brings a total of over $60k received in grants by Enfield Harriers Athletics in the last 9 years. I am sure you will agree, this is an awesome feet!
