Thank you Distance Runners Club of SA

The Distance Runners Club (DRC) began operations in 1966 as a necessity. The club was formed to fill in the Winter programs with more events as the association only ran state titles and relays. Back in the hey day at Olympic Sports field, the DRC ran up to 28 events on the road and track. With the lack of association events and the influx of fun runs, the DRC provided people with an opening to many runs, without having to join a club.

Unfortunately, since athletics moved to Santos Stadium (and for a variety of reasons), the DRC has had a continual decline in numbers and events organised. Left with three members (President Des Paul, Secretary L Hannafin and Treasurer Ron O'Neil), the committee faced the tough decision of deciding the future of the club. After almost three years of very irregular meetings, it was decided in January 2010 to close the clubs accounts and effectively cease the DRC. In accordance with the clubs constitution, the funds available were donated to active athletic clubs in SA. The decision was made to share the funds equally between Enfield Harriers and Adelaide Harriers as these clubs had helped the DRC the most over the years.

The DRC name is however still alive, and should someone want to carry on a new account needs to be opened and a committee elected.

Enfield Harriers wish to thank the DRC for the donation of funds and for the involvement, development and contribution of athletics in South Australia.
