June 2009 Results

June kicked off the first EH throw competition and a better night could not have been asked for.

First event was the hammer throw where Darren Billett won the event throwing the 8kg 58.07m. Enormous potential was shown by 14 year old Luke Richards, who with a raw technique threw the 4kg hammer 43.60m. The real compeition however was between Amelia Boylan and Brooke Billett who had a handicap competition for a Haiges chocky frog. Brooke (out for a social throw) offered Amelia a 20m handicap, and was to throw the 4kg off 1 turn, while Amelia who is new to hammer throwing, threw the 3kg hammer. The lead changed twice during the competition, but Amelia was the victor, edging out Brooke by 97cm. Brooke threw 48.83m and Amelia threw 29.80.

Event two was Shot Put and Keith Kaesler (associate member) was tempted off of the track and into the field. Wayne WIllis won the mens competition with a decent throw of 14.51m. Brooke won the womens competition with a throw of 10.30m.

Event three was the discus throw and it saw some of the fastest arms in the state. The young men lead the way hurling the 1kg discus mid/upper forties. There was some raw techinque again on display, but plenty of power went into the implement.  Dylan Brice was the winner, throwing 49.21m, closely followed by Luke Richards 48.84m and Blake Steele 42.71m. Alifatou Djibril won the womens competition throwing the 1.25kg discus 40.61m.

Thank you to Rosemary Billett, Graham Billett and Stuart Clement who came out especially to help officiate the competition. Thank you also to Kym Richards who was also happy to help out during the night.

No prize money was awarded at this competition as funding had not been received. Prize money structure will be announced shortly. There should also be a cheap BBQ at the next competition to fuel up.

Next competition - July 30.
