PREVIEW

Rules Sessions a feature during Round 12 at Dimboola

Friday night hockey will feature at Dimboola again this week in Wimmera Hockey Association’s round 12 with two matches featuring Dimboola and Horsham senior teams to be played while the remaining seven matches will be played on the Saturday.

Rules Sessions with Regional Umpires Coach Charlie Martin will be held at 12.30pm and 3.30pm on the Saturday in the clubrooms at the Dimboola Health and Fitness Centre (each a half hour later than originally in the draw).  These are open to all members old and new, players, coaches, parents and umpires.  All members are encouraged to attend the informative and explanatory sessions.  Charlie is also available to work with umpires on their individual development and accreditations on the day.

Horsham Hockey Club is hosting round 12 and plans to participate in the Pull Up Your Socks campaign running a pink day during the round.

This will be the second round that the hockey has benefited from the bright new electronic scoreboard which the Dimboola Hockey Club won as part of a facebook photo competition earlier in the year.

Juniors

Depending on some of the school holiday line ups this may affect some outcomes this round as they did last week.  Several junior teams last week utilised borrowed players to help fill the teams which gave some benefits in goal scoring opportunities with all three lower order teams scoring multiple goals against higher ranked opponents.

Dimboola Kookaburras scored multiple goals last week and which was a real boost to the side and they will use that confidence when they meet Warrack Revengers in the early game on the turf.

Nhill Leopards will take on Yanac Warriors and although Warriors are the stronger team the young Leopards will not back down and this should be a good game to watch.

Horsham Bombers and Dimboola Kangaroos will play a competitive game.  Both teams scored multiple goals against stronger opponents last week and will each have confidence going into this match.

Kaniva junior team Raiders has the bye.

Women

Friday night sees Dimboola Women play Horsham Highlanders.  This will be a tough match for Highlanders against the big hitters in Dimboola’s team with Highlanders missing a few key players in the last couple of weeks.

On Saturday the unbeaten Yanac Women will get some good opposition from Warrack Women but should still have the upper hand following some very strong team performances over the past several weeks.

Nhill Thunderbirds have a good track record of scoring goals against Kaniva Women but the Kaniva team thrives on the turf and may not be such easy targets this week.  This will be the first time these teams have met on the turf this season and it could help boost the Kaniva side, which also enjoys playing under lights in the late game.

Open

Dimboola Men should play an even match on Friday night against the Horsham Hurricanes.  Both played strong games last week with Hurricanes scoring the second goal of the season against the top team Yanac Tigers, although aided by a couple of quality borrowed players.  Dimboola held the Kaniva Cobras to a one-goal win and are playing some good hockey.

Top two teams and long time rivals Yanac Tigers and Warrack Hoops will play a fast game.  They played a 1-1 draw last time with that being the first goal scored against the Tigers for the season.  This will be another good fast rival game.

Nhill Rangers play Kaniva Cobras in the late afternoon.  Rangers will want to regroup after forfeiting last week due to a lack of numbers, possibly due to school holidays.  This should be a fast match and Cobras should take nothing for granted.
