No more updates will be made to this site

(effective 7th September)

To view Lower North Coast Bowls related information go to the

Zone14 website

and follow the LNC links in their menus.

Going, going, soon to be gone…

From the middle of September, this website will either be closed or be found drifting aimlessly in the “Cloud” collecting rust & dust.

The recent Zone 14 AGM and elections saw the “Zone Alone” concept finally become a reality. The administrative functions of the two former districts, the LNC & MNC, will now be performed by the Zone admin team with attendant cost savings and a clean out of all sorts of redundancies.

Having 2 websites after the changeover was pointless. I am currently moving content from the LNC website to the Zone 14 website and hope to have the job done by mid-September. Once completed there will be no further work done on the “old girl”. The good news is LNC content will still be available on the Zone 14 website and will be kept current ie you will be able to view LNC Championship, Pennant and LNC specific “Breaking News” on the Zone 14 website as you have on the LNC one.

I would like to publically thank Ian Weldon in being so generous and accommodating in giving me a set of keys to, and space on, his Zone 14 website.

Finally, thanks for the support and kind comments from LNC bowlers and Clubs – it is appreciated.

If you haven’t done so already – make sure you bookmark the Zone 14 website in your favourite browser. The link is www.zone14.bowls.com.au and hopefully I will catch up with you there.

Cheers

Paul

State Pennant Playoffs at Port City

Port City Bowling Club was abuzz getting ready to host the State No. 2 Pennant Finals from Friday to Monday, 9-11 August, 2014.
President Paul Brady, Secretary Dave Lomas and a band of willing volunteers and staff of the Club were expecting a lot of people over the period and it proved to be justified.  A live feed of results was provided on Port City Bowls new website for all and sundry to view.  Special interest was that Port City were representing Zone 14 in the finals and hopes were high.

Day 1 saw the event open by a grand gathering on the green of all Clubs involved.

The Scottish piper played Waltzing Matilda from the roof top, then two rounds in each section were played.

Day 2 saw the last round in the morning deciding who the winners of the four sections would be with Penrith, Armidale City, Taren Point and Cabramatta topping these.  The afternoon saw that the final would be played between old rivals, Cabramatta and Taren Point, who produced victories over their opponents.  Port City had some consolation, defeating Cabramatta in the third game.

Monday morning saw the two sides line up with a good crowd of supporters and spectators.  A live feed on the internet provided an end by end score via the internet from the Port City website

The conditions were slightly chilly in the sunshine with a breeze blowing across the green.  The Bullants (Cabra) lead all the way on the Master Board with Taren Point trying their hardest to peg them back on several occasions, but to no avail and the final scoreline of 73-47 saw Cabramatta the State No. 2 Pennant Winners.  The games were played in the best of spirit and the tricky winds brought out the best in the players.  Well done to everyone and congratulations to Cabramatta.

The presentation saw Royal Vice President Mr. Ron King, Zone 14 Vice President Ken Errington and Port City President Paul Brady say of few words each on the success and great organisation of the Final, with special thanks to Mr. Charlie Buchanan.  The badges and flags were then presented by Ron King to the victors and runners up to applause from the crowd, ending the official ceremonies and then the media finished the event with photos and interviews.  A wonderful few days again showcasing our fabulous game.

Congratulations to the Grade 6 from Westport who made it through the 3 rounds of the State Pennant Playoffs undefeated and into the Semi Finals against St John's Park. At the time of writing Westport was 43 & St John's Park 31, after 35 ends.

2014 ZONE PENNANT WINNERS – CONGRATULATIONS

The 24th May, 2014 signalled the end of the Mid North Coast and Lower North Coast District Associations doing battle for the coveted Zone 14 Pennant titles, covering seven (7) grades. Next year, we will be united under the one banner of Zone 14 ending the 'them' and 'us' syndrome and commencing the 'we' era. Our Zone Alone administration will be the sole governing body of our sport in 2015, but the north and south areas will still engage in battle for Pennant honours.

The winners of the Zone Pennant Grades this year, earning the right to challenge for the State titles at the listed venues are:-

Grade Winners Runners Up Result Play State at
Grade 1 Park Beach Westport 66-43 Forestville
Grade 2 Port City Sawtell 63-54 Port City
Grade 3 Port City West Coffs 63-58 Mount Lewis
Grade 4 North Haven Sawtell 83-42 Ettalong Memorial
Grade 5 Stuarts Point Port Panthers 78-50 South Tamworth
Grade 6 Westport Bowraville   Ballina RSL
Grade 7 Westport West Coffs 64-49 Engadine

Congratulations go to all those players who participated in the Finals and we wish the winners the best of luck at State. This year culminated in the Zone allocating four (4) venues for the Finals and from all reports the host venue Clubs did not disappoint in their efforts to provide the best of conditions and facilities to players, officials and supporters. A big thank you to Port City, Scotts Head, Westport and North Beach Bowling Clubs, their committees and staff and many volunteers who make these days the success they are.

Clubs are advised that new Conditions of Play for 2015 are in the pipeline and when released, they should be read and understood thoroughly by the appropriate Club officials for the eligibility and grading status of all Pennant participants. A copy will be available for downloading on the Lower North Coast and Zone websites when completed by Bowls NSW. In the meantime, good bowling to all and enjoy yourselves playing our wonderful sport.
