Born on September 19, 1982, Shoji took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens where he dropped his round of 32 match to Chinese Bao Chunlai. But the Japanese ace has picked up his game the last few months and he is actually coming off a runner-up finish in the Osaka International Challenge last April and a couple of last 16 efforts in the Indonesia and Singapore Super Series.
Regarded as one of the fastest on foot players in the world, Shoji will be heading to the $120,000 Bingo Bonanza Philippine Open Badminton Championships with renewed confidence following a string of quarterfinal finishes in the Asian Continental Championships, the Swiss Open and the All-England Championships last March.
