DOUBLES

Thailands Doubles pairs seem to be dominant along with Malaysia and some reminiscent faces from Indonesia who could surprise many at the event!  Home crowd favorites, the Asuncions, should also try to relive their outstnding performance from the 2005 MVP Cup where they took the world’s #1 Mixed Doubles pair to 3 games!

In the Mens Doubles, the world #11 Malaysian pair of Mohamed Tazari/Lin Woon Fui are poised to win their first title here, but will see competition from Thai pairing of Sudket/Patapol and Indonesians Hendra Gunawan/Joko Riyadi.  2004 Olympic Bronze Medalist Eng Hian of Indonesia should also challenge with new partner Rian Sukmawan.

On the Women’s side, MVP Cup selection Saralee/Sathinee world #11 will see primary challenge coming from #1 pair from Malaysia, Wong Pei Tty/Chin Eei Hui world #5 and Jo Novita/Gresya Polii (Indonesia), compatriots Duang-Anong/Kunchala and Louisa Koon/Wong Man Ching (HK).

On the Mixed Doubles side, we will see a great competition between the two Thai pairs of Sudket/Saralee, world #11, and Songpol/Kunchala, world #12.  But dont count out former world champions, Olympic Medallists and world #1 pairing of Trikus/Minarti of Indonesia!!  Although advancing in age, they are both healthy and were unbeatable at their peak.  They could pull off the biggest surprise of the year in the sport of badminton!

MEN’S DOUBLES (Filipinos)

Watch the #1 Philippine team of Arolas Amahit and Lloyd Escoses take on all challengers in their first major IBF event!

WOMEN’S DOUBLES (Filipinos)

See the Philippines top pairing, the Chan Sisters (Paula and Therine), take on the world’s elite players.  The top Filipino in this group, however, will be Kennie Asuncion who is paired with sparrin partner and former Indonesian national, Wanglili.

MIXED DOUBLES (Filipinos)

This group should see Kennevic and Kennie Asuncion vying for the late rounds and possibly even a title.  Although largely inactive on the IBF circuit, the pair has been practicing at home and abroad against stiff competition and should be considered a dark-horse contender in the mixed doubles.
