WOMEN’S SINGLES

World #3 Wang Chens injury has seen her pulling out at the last minute; she aggravated it in Tokyo in the Uber Cup Finals earlier this month.  World #4 Xu Huaiwen from Germany will certainly be the favorite in the Women’s Singles.

She will see primary competition from Yip Pui Yin (HK) and Salakjit Ponsana (sister of Boonsak on the men’s side!) along with Europeans, Anu Nieminen (Finland) and Agnese Allegrini (Italy) and the young Canadian, Anna Rice.  Along with Malaysian Sutheswari Mudukasan, these players are all in the worlds top 35 and will be primary title-seekers.

Dark horses within this group must be the Indonesians.  A young group of rising stars, there is a strong tradition of excellence in that badminton-crazy country, so keep an eye on Francisca Ratnasari and Adrianti Fridasari.

Irene Chiu and Karyn Velez will carry the flag for the Philippines in this category!
