2015 Australia Day Awards ...... Jess Switzer and Susan Pattel

 

Junior Sportsperson of the Year - Jessica Switzer

The 18-year-old is a talented hockey player from Pacific Haven, playing both indoor and outdoor forms of the game for the Maryborough and District Hockey Association.

She has devoted a lot of her time to mentoring young goal keepers as well as umpire juniors games on Saturday mornings.

Jessica has made the Queensland team for indoor and outdoor hockey for the past three years as well as playing in South Africa as a member of the Under 19 School Girls Hockey Team.

She has just competed at the Under 21 Queensland Indoor Hockey titles where she was named as a member of the Under 21 Australia Development Squad.

On the Fraser Coast Jessica is a valuable member of United Hockey Club for the past six years as the Division One goal keeper. 

Sportsperson of the Year - Susan Pattel

Susan has participated in a variety of sports where she has had a particular emphasis on developing the skills of junior participants.

As a sporting shooter she has competed at local, zone, state and international events. In 2014 Susan represented the country as a member of the National Sporting Shooters Association of Australia NRA Target Pistol team that competed in America. 

The Maryborough Hockey Association is proud to have had Susan play local and representative hockey for more than 25 years. As a member of the Maryborough Hockey Association she is a Technical Officer at local and state championships, junior umpire, fundraiser and canteen helper.

She has been treasurer at the Wallaroos Hockey Club for two years, a team manager, technical officer and joint registrar. Susan was a junior player and coach at the Tinana Hockey Club.

Susan has made the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia National Team in 2010, 2012 and 2014 and was the only female to qualify for a spot on the National NRA Target Pistol Team in 2014 that competed in America.
