 Div 3 Women Wallys defeated GuRoos 3 - 0

GuRoos came out strong early with a corner in the first two minutes however they could not capitalise.  Nice passing between Julie Maile and Leora Kirk to run the ball into the circle. Alice Newberry displayed her great skills to penetrate the circle however Gurros defence forced a free hit. Guroos were then able to penetrate the circle and force a corner.  Another corner was forced after good work from Sarah Kruger. Wallys defence broke allowing GuRoos a good chance to score as only 4 players were left to defend in the box. The trap and lay off broke down. Guroos had a chance when Anika Jeppesen received a great pass in the circle however it again broke down.  Great work from Alice Newberry to work the ball up the field and pressure the Guroos defence. Troy Shepperd forced the ball into the circle to earn a corner however again they couldn’t score. Nice ball from Anika across the circle couldn’t find the other forwards and Wallys retained possession. Jan Ransome very strong in defence for Wallys and getting great hits away. Another great save by Jenny Houlcroft in the goal for Wallys to deny Guroos a goal.  4 mins to go a raised ball out of defence resulted in a corner for Wallys. Alice Newberry trapped the ball at the top and slotted the ball into the net past the goal keeper for the first goal of the match.  Summer Cunningham from Guroos continued to do great work on the right side working hard and making good ground. Half time score 1 - 0. 

 Second half - -Corner to Wallys. Hit to Julie but spoilt by Gurroos defence. Corner to Guroos to Summer lay off for shot but saved by defence. Great work by Summer Cunningham into the circle to pressure the defence. Anika played ball on foot for a corner . Layoff to Summer but spoilt by defence. Play continued to be even between both teams with the play going up and down the field . Corner to Wallys mistrap at top and over the backline. A great pass from Julie Maile found the stick of Leora Kirk for a backstick flick into the box for their second goal.  Great skills Leora!  Wallys earned a corner but the shot was spoilt by the runner however it then deflected forward for Alice Newberry to score the third goal.  With 15 min to go Guroos put the pressure on and penetrated the circle a number of times however Wallys strong defence kept it out.  Wallys then counter attacked however Guroos fought back and won a corner by Alice Bakker. Great shot at from the corner however a great save by Marita Abbell the goalie however another corner was awarded. Corner hit was passed off with defence intercepting and winning the free hit.  With 5 mins to go a corner was awarded to Guroos. Sarah Kruger received the corner hit and the shot was stopped by the defence however another corner was awarded.  A lay off to Summer who had the shot however deflected off defence. . Gurros again attacking and putting pressure on to desperately try and score before the full time whistle.

U11 Girls Irish Eyes defeated Kirras 4 - 0

In the first 9 minutes Irish Eyes was able to capitalise on a rummage in the circle for a goal to be scored by Alyssa Dakin.  With 14 mins to go in the first half Kirras were awarded a corner resulting in a lay off to the top of the circle however a miss hit denied them a goal. Erish Eyes then were awarded a corner.  A nice hit out for a shot from the top was however deflected over the backline by the defence.  The young Kirras team did not give up and continued to defend and counter attack.  With 2 mins to go a hit from outside the circle was able to make way for the forwards to move the ball around for a goal to be scored by Tennille Doherty.  Aimee Garland goalie for Kirras made some great saves and made it harder for Irish Eyes to score.

Second half – Irish Eyes came out strong with a corner awarded in the first minute of play however it was mistrapped at the top of the circle.  Irish Eyes continued to attack with another corner however nice work by Kirras stopped any further shots. Lucy Watkins of Irish Eyes made a nice run into the circle to pass across the circle for Tennille Doherty to push the ball into the goal. Kirras put the pressure on with getting the ball in their attacking half however the older and stronger defence made it hard for them. Another corner for Irish Eyes (Coach shouting ‘No 2’) resulted in a push to the top and straight shot however was miss hit and deflected off defence for long corner.  A breakaway by Irish Eyes was halted by great defence by Kirras. Kirras had their chance with one on one with the goalie however was not able to capitalise. With 7 mins to go a nice ball from Lucy Watkins from half way to Cassidy Heffernan resulted in another goal being scored. Nice save from Aimee Garland the goalie for Kirras in the last 2 mins denied Irish Eyes another goal. The younger team of Kirras fought really hard and did not make it easy for the more experienced and older team of Irish Eyes.

U13 Girls Uniteds defeated Wallaroos 1 - 0

Minor Premiers Roos came out fast with a corner being awarded which resulted in another corner however the strong defence of Uniteds spoilt any chance of a goal. Roos continued their early attack with most of the play in the first 10 mins.  Uniteds however fought back hard with a corner eventuating. The ball was hit out from the corner however a great run out by Anna Karrasch to steal the ball resulted in a shot being denied by Uniteds. Anna continued to run with the ball and make a lovely pass into the circle.   Rosie Baumann made a great hit into the circle however Uniteds were unable to capitalise.  Nice play by Uniteds forwards driving the ball into the circle and continuing to pressure Roos defence.  Nice run by Abbey Hewitt to pass across the circle to again pressure Roos. 3 mins to go Roos ran the ball into the circle for a shot however Marita Abel made an excellent diving save.  Abby Hewitt forced a corner hit out however shot went wide.  Nice ball to Sophie Hewitt and pass however Roos were able to stop the play.  With 2 secs left on the clock in the first half a ball from Braxton Sheppard in the circle found players however Uniteds defence were too strong. Roos continued to have opportunities with  a corner being awarded.  The hit going to the top then pass right for the shot to be saved by Uniteds defence.

Second half -  Great work by Jessica Staples to move the ball around and control the game to continue to pressure Roos in the circle.  With 16 mins left a corner was awarded to Uniteds however Roos great defence spoilt the shot.  Uniteds continued to attack to pressure the Roos defence.  Nice try by Keely Reilly for a backhand shot at goal.  With 9 mins to go great work by Abby Hewitt to beat a couple of players with great skill and release the ball the Maddy Jordon to put the ball in the box for the first goal of the match.  With 6 mins to go Jess Staple controlled play and was able to keep play in Uniteds attacking 25. Roos strong defence made it difficult for Uniteds to get shots away.  The last 2 mins Uniteds kept their half and with 55 secs to go Jess Staples backstick hit found a Roos foot for a corner.  Great run out by Braxton Sheppard of Roos to spoil the shot and deny Uniteds of another goal.  The Coaches Myra Reilly (Roos) and Sharon Worner and Helen Mynott (Uniteds) must be congratulated for their fine effort with all these girls.  Anyone who watched this game was kept on the edge of their seat with either team having the ability to win the game. This definitely was the game of the morning!

U12 Boys Hervey Bay defeated Wallaroos 4 - 2

Hervey Bay were quick off the mark with a great pass being given to Josh Donkin to put the ball in the box for a goal in the second minute of the game.  Roos were put under pressure from the start however great defence by Diamid Chappell to clear the ball out the circle with a backstick hit.  Hervey continued with the pressure to build up play and allow Ethan to score the second goal.  Another chance for HB went missing with the shot going wide. Trent Goildenstein of Roos used great skills to beat a number of players however HB were too strong and spoilt play. Nice work by Josh Donkin to again get the ball in the circle.  Another chance for HB however deflected off Ryan Frederiksen for a long corner. Nice run by Taj Wright to run the ball into the circle and pass for an opportunity to score. 9 mins to go Hervey Bay moved the ball down the field for another goal from Josh Donkin.  Great save by Ryan Frederiksen to deny HB another goal.  Nice lead up work by Trent Goldenstein for a shot however the ball deflected of HB.  Great ball from Diamid Chappell into the circle to find Taj Wright who performed a beautiful backstick hit into the goal for Roos.  Diamid had another opportunity with a great shot at goal however Daniel Haskins HB goalie made a great save.

Second half – Hervey Bay again started strong with Roos defence having to play hard to keep the ball clear of the circle. Jaspa Wright worked really hard and spoilt lots of Hervey Bays play. HB were awarded a corner but was spoilt by Roos defence.  Nice skills again by Trent Goldenstein in the circle however unable to get the ball in the box.  Tomahawks shots at goal by Jasper Wright and another by Trent however were unable to get into the box.  Another Tomahawk shot by Trent was saved by the goalie Daniel Haskins.  Roos seemed to have many chances however could not get the ball in the box.  With 12 mins to go Trent forced a corner however a mistrap at the top of the circle denied a shot.  Another corner however was given with the straight shot from Trent deflecting off HB defence. Roos definitely had more chances and shots at goal in the 2nd half however weren’t able to score.  With 8 mins to go HB again pressured to force a corner.  Straight shot at goal went into the box by Jayden Douna for their 4th goal.  Great tomahawk pass by Diamid Chappell into circle for Trent Goldenstein to get a touch for Roos 2nd goal.  1 min to go HB forced a corner but deflected of the defence for a long corner.  Full time whistle went with the final score 4 – 2 to Hervey Bay.

Div 2 Men Granville defeated Roos 6 - 1

The strong team of Granville led from the start and in the first minute Zac Binnington made a great run down the left side to have a shot however Roos goalkeeper Mat Axelson made a great save. A great pass from half way to Aaron Kenny of Granville in the circle was spoilt by Roos defence.  Aaron then made a perfect cross into the circle however the forwards were unable to get a touch. Drew Harold of Granville made a great run and was able to finish with a pass into the circle however strong defence by Mark Sengstock denied Granville a goal. Ben Cozens with a massive overhead to Aaron was able to keep possession and get the ball into circle. With more opportunities and balls passing across the circle Granville were still kept scoreless.  With 10 minutes played the first corner for the game was awarded to Roos however the shot went wide.  Granville forced a corner with ball coming out to Ben Cozens to lay off to Drew Harold however saved by Mat Axelson. Adam Casperson good run down right side with Granville’s goalie Cameron Miller having to make a great save.  Roos had their chance with a corner being awarded however the straight shot was saved by the goalie.

Aaron Kenny made some great leads for Drew Harold to give the perfect pass to. Aaron with his great skills was able to penetrate the circle for a corner.  Granville capatilised on the perfect corner set up with the drag out from Aaron, stick trap from Zac Binnington and a straight shot hard into the net by Ben Cozens for the first goal of the game.  With 8 mins to go Joe Schultz forced a corner for Roos however the shot went straight at the goalie. 6 mins to go Aaron Kenny forced a corner however was saved by the goalie.  Granville continued to pressure with another corner being awarded. Roos broke forcing a player to go back to half way. Zac Binnington was able to capitalise with a slap hit into the goal.  Daniel Wroe produced some nice skills to go into circle and have shot with a goal to put the ball into the net for the half time score to end at 3 – 0.

Second half – Great pass to Adam Casperson who had a shot from the top of the circle however went wide. Roos started strong with many balls going to the forwards up high. Roos missed their chance when a long ball was passed into the circle and provided them the opportunity.  9 mins into the second half another great pass from halfway found Aaron Kenny who slotted it high into the net.  Young Rhys McShane for Granville was able to force a corner however the shot at goal again went straight to Roos goalie. Roos had another opportunity when the ball was crossed into the circle however was again spoilt by Granville’s defence. With 15 mins to go a Drew Harold tomahawk was perfectly placed in the bottom left corner to get past the goalie.

Cameron Miller Granville’s goalie made a great clearance kick as Roos desperately tried to get a score on the board.  With 5 mins remaining Granville had the opportunity for 2 on 1 with Aarron Kenny passing to Rodney Wall who made the perfectly placed slap hit into the box for the 6th goal to Granville.  Roos who were still desperate to try and score pressured Granville’s defence and were awarded a corner with 27 sec left on the clock.  With the full time hooter gone all of Roos came to the circle. The drag out was stick trapped for Mark Sengstock to hit the ball sweet into the net to score Roos only goal.

 Div 2 Women Uniteds defeated Tinana 3 - 1

Minor Premiers Uniteds started off very strong and within 2 minutes a deflection inside the circle just missed the box. Uniteds retained possession and continued to pressure the defence with a shot by Sharon Worner of Uniteds being saved by Tinana’s goalie. Jacki Hutton of Uniteds made a great pass into the circle for another opportunity however could not capitalise.  Even though Uniteds dominated play Tinana were able to penetrate the circle for a corner to be awarded.  The perfect corner set was played by Tinana with a great drag out by Jacinita Knight, trapped by Marion Millard to pass off to Tammy Stevens then received back to Marion for a high shot into the net for a goal.  Uniteds came back firing to get into circle for corner however the shot went wide of the goal. Uniteds continued to attack with a great save by Peri Lee Furber on the line to deny Uniteds another goal. With more shots at goal and another corner Uniteds were still unable to get the ball into the box.  Tinana’s forwards made a couple of breakaways and were able to move forward however Uniteds strong defence proved too good.  With 14 minutes to go Debbie Scholl from United’s capitalised on the ball being passed across the front of the box to slot the ball into the net.  With 2 mins left  Jacinta Knight made some ground and had a good run into the circle however the defence again were too strong. Half time 2 – 1 to Uniteds

Second half –Uniteds came back on very strong to build up play many times into the circle however missed many opportunities with Tinana spoiling play in defence. Nice work by Julie Staples to pass the ball into the circle for Jacki Hutton to score United’s third goal.  Lily McCabe made some nice runs into the circle however was unable to get past Terri Dart who held strong in defence. With 10 minutes to go and the score at 3 – 1 Tinana were desperate and a great run by Lily McCabe into the circle ended in a corner. Uniteds defence were too strong and no shot was able to be made. Tinana never gave up and continued to attack for last 5 minutes however could still not capitalise.

 U16 Girls Uniteds defeated Roos  5 - 0

Uniteds proved too strong for the Roos girls who gave all they could.  Roos started strong with the forwards passing well to control the ball and pressuring the Uniteds defence.  However a great run down the right side by Rebecca Greiner of Uniteds caused concern for Roos and Rebecca was able to hit the ball into the circle with the first corner for the game being awarded.  The shot deflected off the defence for a long corner.  Soon after another corner was awarded however the shot at goal went wide.  Another great run by Rebecca Greiner of Uniteds who penetrated into the circle with a well placed tomahawk going into the net for the first goal of the game. Roos forwards again came back to force a corner.  With many shots at goal from the corner Jess Switzer Uniteds goalie made numerous saves however another corner was awarded with the shot at goal deflecting over the backline.  With only 8 mins to go in the first half Uniteds continued to attack with Morgan Stephenson making lots of ground however the strong Roos defence and great play by Maree Woods denied United any further goals.  With 1 min to go in the first Uniteds had their chance when Morgan Stephenson was able to force a corner however the shot deflected of the defender.  Another corner was awarded with 40 secs to go however Roos strong defence  and a great save by the Roos goalie Marita Abell denied Uniteds any further goals for the score to remain at 1 – 0 to Uniteds.

Second half – The Roos half time talk must have worked as they started strong with Kayla Sengstock delivering well to put the pressure on Uniteds with Jess Switzer having to make a great diving save.  Uniteds then started to put the pressure back on with the ball going in the net for Uniteds.  After both umpires conferred a goal was awarded to Bree Dutton from Uniteds. Uniteds continued to attack with another shot at goal however Mariata Abell made another good save.  With 15 mins to go Rebecca Greiner made a tomahawk shot from near top of circle to score another goal for Uniteds.   With 6 mins to go a long corner was awarded with Uniteds running in to shoot for goal and Kelsey Elliot getting the deflection to score. With 2 mins left on the clock a corner was awarded to Uniteds which was taken and resulted in another corner for Rebecca Greiner to score from the top of the circle.  Then with 30 seconds to go Uniteds had their chance again when they earned another corner with drag going to the top of the circle and the shot at goal going over the back line.

Both teams displayed some great teamwork and the game was a very good display of sportsmanship from both teams.  Well done girls.

Vets Women Granville defeated Uni/Roos 4 - 0

Granville started off very strong with a corner being awarded in the first 3 minutes however they were unable to convert. Beautiful skills by Erin Crick to run from the 25 to beat players and have a shot at goal from the top of the circle to score the first goal of the match.  With 15 mins into the game attack was even by both teams.  Scrappy play in front of the goal by Uniteds eventuated into a corner with Michelle Kroning taking a shot however the runner was too quick and spoilt the shot.  Granville had another chance to score when great passing by Erin to Kim Bristow then Michelle Kroning however the shot went wide.  With 5 mins to go a great hit into the circle from Cassandra Wilkinson allowed Julie Maile to hit the ball high into the net for Granville’s second goal.  2 mins later another corner for Granville was awarded with Diane Fraser dragging out to Kim Bristow to pine the ball into the bottom left corner. Uni/Roos mounted a late attack to finish off the first half strong.

Second half – A great hit from half way by Lyn Tucker of Uniteds to her forwards was spoilt by the strong Granville defence.  Granville was able to force a corner early however a great save by Kim Daley in the goal denied Granville another goal.  Good combination of passing by Myra Reilly and Lyn Tucker of Uniteds provided an opportunity for Uniteds and more attack with Granville having to scramble in defence.  Another run from half way by Erin Crick eventuated in a corner to Granville.  A great drag out from Diane Fraser allowed Kim Bristow a direct shot to place the ball between the goalie’s outstretched legs for Granville’s third goal.  Uni/Roos had opportunities with the ball crossing into the circle from the backline however were unable to capitalise.  More great skills from Erin to beat 3 players and pass to Julie Maile however shot went wide. With 15 minutes to go Jackie Hutton pounced on the ball to make a great run down the side line to get the hit away into the circle however great defence by Karen Scougall spoilt their chance. 12 mins left on the clock Uni/Roos were awarded their first corner however the shot at goal went wide. With 8 mins left Uni/Roos attack resulted in a corner with Jacquie Hutton hitting out to Julie Staples for a solid hit at goal. Granville’s goalie Melissa Helmstedt dived and the goal was saved on the post by Judy McInnes. The last 5 minutes Granville continued to pressure with more opportunities however the final whistle went for the full time score to end at 4 – nil.

U16 Boys Wallaroos defeated Hervey Bay 2 - 1

Congratulations to the Paul Tucker coached team of Wallaroos for a great team effort in defeating Hervey Bay 2 – 1.  Congratulations must also go to Hervey Bay who came from 4th place to earn a spot in the Grand Final.  An excellent display of great skills and sportsmanship was had by both teams.

Match Report……With only 5 mins into the game a corner was awarded and after a few rebounds  Carter Chappell of Roos scored the first goal of the match. The first 15 mins of play was very even with play mainly between the 25s however Roos started to put the pressure on Hervey Bay’s defence with Nic Baltzer the goalie for Hervey Bay making a number of great saves.  After lots of attach by Roos a corner was eventually awarded however Roos were denied any further goals by some brilliant saves by Nic Baltzer.  Roos continued their attack with another corner being awarded however again Nic displayed some great goal keeping skills to again deny Roos of any goals. Half way through the first half both teams displayed great defensive skills.  With 11 minutes to go in the first half Hervey Bay had their chance when a corner was awarded to them however a great save by the Roos goalie Keelan Goodall denied them this opportunity and a long corner was awarded.  Roos forwards then continued to pressure Hervey Bay’s defence with 4 great saves in a row by Nic Baltzer.  The first half provided many opportunities for Roos however the game remained at 1 – 0 at half time.

Second half – 4 minutes into the second half Roos kept attacking with a shot a goal to deflect off a defender again denying Roos another goal. After 10 minutes Hervey Bay forced a corner resulting in Jay Andrews scoring after some nice stickwork from Conor McMahon to beat the first runner.  Hervey Bay continued then to pressure Roos with another corner being awarded after an infringement outside the circle.  Hervey Bay were unlucky not to score from the corner after a good corner set up however the shot at goal narrowly missed the box.  With 7 minutes to go Roos continued to pressure the Hervey Bay with Jack Wareing eventually slotting a goal for Roos.  Hervey Bay did not give up and continued to cause concerns for Roos however the final whistle went with the game ending in a 2 -1 win to Roos.

Vets Men Granville defeated Brothers 6 - 2

What an interesting display of skills and ability by the Vets Men who play this competition with only 9 a side. The Granville team proved too strong with their youth and high level of skills to defeat the very competitive Brothers outfit.

With only 7 minutes into the game a brilliant performance by Michael McKenna resulted in a goal from a very difficult angle.  Brothers then fought back to earn a corner however great goalkeeping by Gary Sutton denied Brothesr the goal.  Brothers continued to attack with 2 more corners being awarded and eventually a straight shot at goal by Terry Elmer went into the box for the score to become 1 all. Granville continued to attack with great build up work resulting in a corner however Granville were unable to convert.  A minute later another corner was awarded after some great work by Aaron Kenny.  A layoff from the corner to Drew Harold who had a straight shot at goal and straight into the net for the score to then go 2 – 1.  Drew continue with his fine lead up work for another corner to be awarded however again the shot at goal missed the box. Brothers then had their opportunity when a corner was awarded in their favour however the straight shot at goal also missed the box.  With 9 minutes to go in the first half Granville continued their attack with another 2 corners awarded however again they were unable to convert.  With only 4 minutes to go in the first half Aaron Kenny took a self play to penetrate the circle and score a great goal.  One minute later Aaron Kenny received a great pass who struck the ball sweet for another goal.  Half time whistle went with the score being 4 – 1.

Second half – Brothers pressured from the start and a great shot at goal was saved by Gary Sutton Granville goalkeeper.  Granville fought back by a brilliant diving shot at goal by Michael McKenna however Dale Dakin Brothers goalkeeper made a great save to deny Granville another goal. 8 minutes into the second half Tim Lynch had a shot of goal from the top of the circle who put it straight into the box for another goal to Granville.  Granville continued their attack with Dale Dakin making another great save.  Brothers then fought back to be awarded a corner however the shot went wide.  A great individual run from half way by Tim Lynch who went into the circle to have a high shot at goal with the ball going high into the net. Brothers again had their chance with another corner however again were unable to convert.  Another goal went missing when a Drew Harold tomahawk went wide however he was not going to give up when with only 5 minutes to go he performed a great steal to cross the ball into the circle to win a corner.  With 4 minutes left on the clock a great pass to Tony McCarthy at the top of the circle resulted in a straight shot by Tony into the net. With 1 minute to go Brothers were awarded a corner however again the shot missed the box.  Final score ended with a 6 – 2 win to Granville.
