Turf Replacement 2014 ...............it has started and help is now needed

MDHA Turf Removal January 2013

Your Association needs your Help

The removal of the old turf has commenced and your help is needed in January to complete the work.  Any time you can provide would be greatly appreciated by your association, club, fellow hockey players and supporters.  A removal project well done will save up to $20 000 in costs which is vital to maintaining lower fees for hockey players in Maryborough.

On the below dates people will work in gangs of 6 to 8 people who will uplift and relocate the turf and shock pad.  This is a labour intensive project that will require many hands.    Up to 30 people are needed to assist at each of the above sessions.  Men and women are invited as there will be many roles other than doing the heavy lifting.  Small clean up tasks, catering, hospitality and looking after volunteer health and wellbeing are also critical to maintaining a safe working environment.

Dates and Times – Our aim is to complete as much of the work in the first weekend as we can.  Volunteers are asked to nominate for the first weekend sessions as the priority.  “Many hands make light work”.

Friday 10/01/14 4pm – 9pm

Saturday 11/01/14 6am – 11am, 4pm – 9pm

Sunday 12/01/14 6am – 11am, 4pm – 7pm

Pending work completed the previous weekend

Friday 17/01/14 4pm – 9pm

Saturday 18/01/14 6am – 11am, 4pm – 9pm

Sunday (Further contingency sessions depending on the completion of work) 19/01/14 6am – 11am, 4pm – 7pm

What to Wear

Enclosed footwear, broad brimmed hat, gloves, collared long sleeve shirt, sunglasses, sunscreen and water are all vital for your safety and well-being.

What to do

To ensure we have appropriate numbers of people for the required work, you are asked to please email Paul Tucker at paultucker@iinet.net.au by Monday 09 January 2014 and indicate which session/s you will be able to assist including the names of volunteers to allow the association to acknowledge all workers individually for their efforts.

Are you a current qualified First Aid Officer?  If so please indicate this in your response to Paul as safety and wellbeing issues are of importance to us all during the removal period.  Having a safety officer at each session is vital to taking care of our workers.

MDHA

Will provide water top ups, drinks and where possible a BBQ to feed the troops.  Safety instructions will also be issued to each gang to ensure maximum protection and safety for all volunteers.

We will not be focussing on relocating the turf to other locations on these weekends as the priority will be to lift the old turf and shock pad away from the field to allow for work on the new surface to commence from late January.

This will be an exciting time in the transition from our current turf to the new surface in 2014 and this critical step done well will be a credit to our hockey community and a financial benefit as well.  We look forward to your support in January and wish everyone a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.
