Men - Granville Tigers defeated Wallaroos 4-3

Within 5 minutes Roos took the lead when Shaun Goldenstein scored however 3 minutes later Granville came back with a goal from Aaron Grevell to level the score 1-1.  Nathan Bristow (Granville) then gave Granville the lead with an excellent executed goal from the top of the circle. With 14 minutes until half time Aaron Grevell (Granville) converted a penalty corner with great individual skills to get past a couple of Roos players and the keeper.  The opportunity then came to Roos when they were awarded a penalty stroke with 2 minutes to go in the first half. Cody Goldenstein converted the stroke to make the score 3-2 at half time.

Aaron Grevell again scored on the 19th minute in the second half to give Granville a 4-2 lead.  Goalkeepers from both teams had to work hard and produced some excellent saves and showed their great goalkeeping skills.  With 40 seconds left on the clock before full time Joel Williams (Roos) scored making the final full time result 4-3.

The intensity and speed of the game was outstanding and most would agree that this would have to have been one the best hockey matches seen at a local level for a long time. Both teams showed exceptional sportsmanship and they should be proud of this.  Congratulations to both teams for making this a great game to watch.

Women - Uniteds defeated Granville 2-1

Right from the start Uniteds came out fighting and within 2 minutes were awarded a penalty corner.  Lauren Scholl capatilized on this corner resulting in an early lead to Uniteds 1-0.  It looked like the score was going to remain as is until half time however with 2 minutes to go Granville got a corner with Brooke Savage scoring resulting in the half time score ending with 1-1.

Granville had opportunities in the 2nd half however weren't able to get past Uniteds defense. A goal from Naomi Lynch (Uniteds) then put Uniteds in the lead 2-1. With 2 seconds to go before full time Granville were awarded a penalty corner.  The pressure was then on for Granville to convert the corner to level the score however Uniteds strong defence proved too good with the final result being 2-1.

This was also a fine display of good hockey and sportsmanship.  Well done!
