2017 REGION 6 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Mixed Pairs:

Halekulani Bowling Club was the venue for the Mixed Pairs Region 6 playoffs on Sunday 30th July.   The overcast, breezy conditions together with a fast running green made conditions difficult.   It was great to see the spectators giving their teams support.    Our thanks to Halekulani for hosting this event.

Results:

Val Fullick, Wayne Marsh (Charlestown) defeated Judy Wheatley, Mark Wheatley (Wyong).

Singles, Open and Senior Pairs, Triples,  Open and Senior Fours:

Monday 31st July and Tuesday 1st August we travelled to Redhead Bowling Club in Lake Macquarie for the Singles, Open and Senior Pairs, Triples and Open and Senior Fours.  These events had to be played over two days because of several players being involved in multiple  events.

Results:

Singles:

Rhonda Littlewood (Valentine)  def.  Margaret Smith (Avoca Beach)

Great bowling by both these ladies.  Very close game.

Open Pairs:

Raewang Namutwong, Gayle Gannon (Charlestown)

def.

Leanne Chenoweth, Margaret Smith (Avoca Beach)

In very windy conditions some great bowls were played.  Well done to the winners.

Senior Pairs:

Joyce Pirie, Carol McCleer (Wyong)

def.

Janet Gray, Freda Wells (Charlestown)

Our ladies started off slowly but then 'got the feel of the green' and continued on to win the game.   Great bowls both both teams.

Triples:

Judy King, Margaret Smith, Karen Croker (Avoca Beach)

def.

Lyn Genders, Halena Wuro, Val Fullick (Charlestown)

A great game of bowls played by both teams.    This was played under very difficult windy conditions in the afternoon with intermittent light rain.    It finished under lights and I am sure the players were happy to get 'into the warm clubhouse'.    Congratulations to both teams.

Open Fours:

Gaye Brown, Margaret West, Julie Paterson, Maureen Simpson (Belmont)

def.

Julia Silvia, Diane Whittaker, Pamela Colbran, Gwendoline Hardwick (Terrigal)

This was a very closely fought game.  Going into the last end they were all level at 14 apiece. In the final end the Belmont team held onto 3 shots taking out the match.   Well done to both teams.

Senior Fours:

Janice Reynolds, Lynette Vetter, Cheryl Butler, Elizabeth Cohen (Bateau Bay)

def.

Lyn Genders, Val Fullick, Patty White, Halina Wuro (Charlestown)

Again this was an enthralling close game.  After 21 ends they were all equal at 16 apiece.  What an exciting extra end, coming down to the very last bowls by the skips.   Liz Cohen played a great shot with her last bowl to get the shot and win the match for her team.   What great bowls ladies.

Congratulations to all the winners who will now go on to the State Playoffs to be played from 16th to 23rd October at Taren Point Bowling Club in Sydney.    We wish them all good bowling.
