2012 Grade 1 Flag Unfurling
Thursday 7th June was the day Halekulani's Grade 1 Pennant flag was unfurled. Unfortunately the weather was not kind with wet, windy conditions which made it necessary to do the unfurling and presentation of badges and certificates indoors. However this did not deter the Halekulani ladies. Previous pennant flags adorned the walls. Halekulani Grade 1 players were joined by 4 of the Avoca Beach runners up and spirits were high. After a lovely morning tea Halekulani President Anne Links welcomed District President Lesley Swales. The Grade 1 winners and runners up were assembled outside the auditorium and then marched in to clapping and cheering by members up on to the stage. Dist. Pres. Lesley, joined by Match Representative Robyne Cosgrove, congratulated the Halekulani side and also the Avoca Beach runners up who were present. She also congratulated Halekulani on their efforts and sportsmanship shown at the Regional playoffs on Tuesday 5th June. Improvisation had to be used to raise the flag. It was attached to the bottom of the screen and as this was raised so was the flag with the winners and runners up looking on from each side. The winners were then presented with their badges, certificates and photos taken on the finals day. The runners up were presented with certificates and photos.
As it was still raining all enjoyed a game of trivia. Certainly taxed our brains. Then luncheon was served and all agreed it had been a lovely day.
