PREVIEW

Hockey resumes after break for Senior Country Weeks

Wimmera Hockey Association action resumes this week after a break for Senior Country Championships.  Yanac Hockey Club will host nine round eight matches on the grass fields at Yanac.

Many senior players will have confidence from their experience at Senior Country Championships last weekend, which should boost their sides this week.

Juniors

In the early game home side Yanac Warriors take on ladder leaders Kaniva Raiders.  This should be a close game between the top two junior sides with plenty of skill on display.

Dimboola Kangaroos played a great team game last round and will want to keep up that teamwork when they meet Nhill Leopards which should be another good match up.

Warrack Revengers have played well in recent games but Horsham Bombers have showed great skill and the ability to work well together as a team and this should be a good contest.

Dimboola junior team Kookaburras has the bye.

Women

Nhill Thunderbirds and Kaniva Women will play a hard fought and reasonably even match but the Nhill side has plenty of fast forwards to watch.

Warrack Women take on home side Yanac Women and will provide a tough match once again.  Warrack has confidence after their first win for the season last round and will use that to put pressure on Yanac’s defence.

Horsham Highlanders will want to test their strength against Dimboola Women who are just ahead of them on the ladder.

Open

Warrack Hoops will take on Yanac Tigers again after only one round in between playing, with a chance to make amends for a substantial loss when Hoops were missing several top players.  Hoops won convincingly over Kaniva Cobras last round but will want to test their strengths again against the top side Tigers.  Marcus Williamson boosted his goal tally last match now clear ahead on the open goal scoring leader board and if backed by a full side will have another chance to be the first to score against the Tigers this season.  The classy Tigers will want to prove last contest was no fluke but this round may have a closer result.  The match will be a good display of skill and pace.

Horsham Hurricanes played well in their new look t-shirts last round earning their first win for the season and will use that confidence when they take on Dimboola Men.  This could be an even contest through the mid field and may come down to the strengths of the goalies Ellie Woods for Dimboola and Stuart Hoffman who has been a top contributor in goals for Hurricanes.  If Hurricanes win they could sneak into the top four.

Nhill Rangers play Kaniva Cobras in one of the late games.  Cobras were not at their best last round and if Rangers go into the match with a positive attitude this could be an even contest with plenty of great action to watch.
