2014 - Round 7 Preview

Round 7

PREVIEW

Friday night hockey for round 7

Friday night hockey will feature this weekend at the Dimboola Health and Fitness Centre when Horsham Hockey Club hosts the first two matches of Wimmera Hockey Association’s round seven.  Horsham will host the remaining seven matches on the Saturday also on the turf.

Many junior players will have confidence from their experience at Junior Country Championships last weekend, which should boost their sides this week.

Annie Anderson will be attending Friday and Saturday sessions this round as well.

Juniors

In the early game on Saturday Yanac Warriors play Warrack Revengers who are not far behind them on the ladder.  This should be a close game with plenty of skill on both sides.

Kaniva Raiders play Nhill Leopards and with both teams playing good hockey lately this should be a good game to watch.

The two Dimboola junior teams Kookaburras and Kangaroos will enjoy the experience of the late 6.30pm game under lights.  The evening atmosphere and the turf will set the scene for a good competition between the young sides.

Horsham junior team Bombers has the bye.

Women

Friday night sees Nhill Thunderbirds and Horsham Highlanders play again after only a few weeks.  Highlanders won by a goal last encounter but the night time atmosphere might spur on Thunderbirds this time.

Since a nil-all result in the first round encounter both Warrack and Kaniva women have changed lineups around a bit.  On equal points on the bottom of the women’s ladder this should be a good challenge match and a good opportunity to display some skills on the turf on Saturday.

Yanac and Dimboola women will play a tough match and the outcome could alter the top two positions on the women’s ladder.  With only two points separating the two, a win to Dimboola would put them in top spot.

Open

Nhill Rangers and Horsham Hurricanes should play an even match on Friday night.  They drew last time with two goals-apiece but this time there is a bit more on the line.  Rangers will want to hold onto their two point buffer that is keeping them in the top four while a win could keep Hurricanes in touch with a spot there.

Warrack Hoops were missing several top players last week in their seven-goal loss to Yanac Tigers.  If they have their full line up back this week they will be looking to make amends and will provide a tough match for Kaniva Cobras.

Even though technically not a ‘home game’ Dimboola Men will use a home-turf advantage when they come up against Yanac Tigers who will be full of confidence after a strong win against Hoops last round.
