2014 - Round 6 Preview

Round 6

Saturday 17 May 2014

At Davis Park, Nhill

PREVIEW

Umpire sessions this Saturday at Nhill

Wimmera Hockey Association round six action will feature at Davis Park in Nhill this Saturday.  Nhill and District Sporting Club Hockey Division will host the nine matches.

Umpire sessions and development will also feature on the day, with Hockey Victoria Regional Umpire’s Coach Charlie Martin in attendance.  Charlie will run an umpire and rules session in the clubrooms at 11am.  The draw has left a space on one field at 11am to encourage more members and especially umpires to attend.  Charlie will also provide some mentoring and assessments during the day.

Juniors

Two junior matches will take place at the early 9.30am timeslot to allow for the umpire session at 11am.  Warrack Revengers will play home side Nhill Leopards and this could be an even battle.

Kaniva Raiders play Dimboola Kangaroos, also at 9.30am, although a typo in the draw says earlier.

Horsham Bombers and Dimboola Kookaburras should be a good match-up and make for an even and entertaining match.

Yanac junior team Warriors has the bye.

Women

Warrack Women will take on Yanac Women in what could be a hard fought match.

Kaniva Women kept strong team Dimboola to a minimal win last week but will hope to have their full half back line in action this week when they take on Horsham Highlanders.  Highlanders scored an impressive win last week and have plenty of players needing watching.

Nhill Thunderbirds played an awesome game last week against the top team Yanac Women to score an equalising goal from a short corner which was played out after time was called and will be looking to keep that momentum going with their fast forwardline when they take on the second placed Dimboola Women.  Dimboola are a strong unit with a strong half back line led by captain Elizabeth Klinge and with plenty of forwards who can score they will be tough competition.

Open

Nhill Rangers with Mont Miller at full back and Dimboola Men with centre half back Tim Jorgensen can each boast strong defence but should get plenty of chances up forward this week and will want to make the most of their opportunities in what might be an even match.

Horsham Hurricanes’ Stuart Hoffman has played strong matches in recent weeks whether in goals or on the field and will block many shots from either position when they play Kaniva Cobras.  Cobras will need to be accurate if they want the points.

Match of the round will take place in the open competition when the reigning premiers meet last year’s runners up Warrack Hoops for the first time this season.  The two teams are separated at the top of the ladder by percentage only with Hoops just in front, although Tigers are still yet to have a goal scored against them this season.  Hoops have the leading goal scorer so far in the open competition in Marcus Williamson, who may be looking to be the first to score against Yanac Tigers this season. This will be a fast match, with plenty of skill and rivalry.
