2014 - Round 5 Preview

Round 5

Friday 9 May 2014 and Saturday 10 May 2014

At Dimboola Health and Fitness Centre

PREVIEW

Friday night games a first for Kaniva

Friday night hockey will feature this weekend for the first time this season when Dimboola Hockey Club hosts round five of the Wimmera Hockey Association competition.  Two matches will play Friday night under lights at the Dimboola Health and Fitness Centre, featuring Kaniva teams for the first time.  The remaining seven matches will play the following day, also on the turf.

Juniors

Home team Dimboola Kookaburras will come up against Warrack Revengers in the early game.  Both teams played well last week despite coming up against tough opponents and will enjoy a good competition this week.

Nhill Leopards have had a good run winning their three matches so far but will be tested when they play Yanac Warriors who have depth and plenty of strong players.  If Warriors win they will sneak ahead of Leopards on the ladder into second spot.

In a first two junior teams will play the late game at 6.30pm on Saturday.  Home side Dimboola Kangaroos and Horsham Bombers will enjoy a good competition, as well as the experience of playing under lights.

Kaniva junior team Raiders has the bye.

Women

Dimboola Women are experienced at playing Friday night games and on their home turf should be well too strong for Kaniva Women.  The new atmosphere may buoy Kaniva however and they will enjoy the challenge.

Yanac Women have come off a solid win but will be kept on their toes by Nhill Thunderbirds’ fast forward line on Saturday.

Horsham Highlanders had a close win last week and will have to keep up the pace against Warrack Women this week.  Warrack have proved they are able to score and should not be underestimated.

Open

Dimboola Men will be hoping their experience at playing Friday night games coupled with their home turf advantage will help them play a competitive match against Kaniva Cobras.  Cobras leveled it with the classy Tigers last week and will be looking to get a win this week.

Yanac Tigers should be too strong for Nhill Rangers on Saturday but Rangers will be buoyed by their result last week and with good defence will keep Tigers working hard.

It was top meets bottom in the women’s competition last week and this week it will be the same in the open competition.  Horsham Hurricanes, on the bottom, will play a tough match against Warrack Hoops who hold a narrow lead on top.  Hurricanes, also buoyed by a good result last week, would be well served if they can keep a similar lineup.
