Mission statement:

To facilitate the optimal participation opportunities for our members and implement unique strategies for the development of our clubs and athletes.

Students of the University of Sydney become part of Australia's oldest and richest sporting tradition.

The University of Sydney has a long and prestigious history of sport.  As an institution it has been witness to many changes in the athletic world.  Sydney University Sport has produced more Australian representatives than any other club.  Consequently it continues to be an influential body in the sporting domain.

The 2004 Athens Olympics and Paralympic Games provided the world with a snapshot of the success of Sydney University Sport.  The University was first represented on the Australian Olympic Team in 1904 by sprinter Nigel Barker and 100 years later by a contingent of 17 athletes and two coaches, five of whom returned with medals.  Other achievements for 2004 incude the Football Club winning the Club Championship, the Sydney Uni Flames reaching the grand final, the American Football Club winning their second consecutive premiership, while in the 2004-2005 cricket season, Sydney University won the Club Championship.

January 1st 2003 was a crucial turning point for the organisation now known as Sydney University Sport when the Sydney University Sports Union (1890) and the Sydney University Women's Sports Association (1910) amalgamated, creating the country's premier tertiary sporting body.  Sydney University Sport manages and administers 42 sport and recreation clubs, organises sporting and recreation events, and offers student and non-student members a comprehensive range of sporting facilities.

A strategic partnership between the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) and the University has been formed to attract, encourage and assist elite athletes with their academic pursuits.
