With solid rain overnight the skies were blue and the course muddy for Race 3 of the FOCUS CROSSFIRE CUP. Some serious local hitters were absent including the (almost) unbeatable current Australian Elite Champ Chris 'JBLOOD' Jongewaard and others off racing for UCI Points in China including Shaun Lewis, Tom Chapman, Michael Howson, Stacey Riedel and Jo Easson (and more!) and plenty of others staying in bed for a DNS the races were anyones! The racing was close on a course that favours powerful riders with the thick wet mulch a challenge for many.
Jay Callaghan had a breakthrough win over Oliver Anderson in a sprint finish for A-Grade CX Men with Max Hardy in third. Nat 'Dust bandit' Redmond put on a 'cross clinic winning by almost 4 minutes in A-Grade Women over older warhorses Gemma Kerno Kernich and Jenny Honey Badger Macpherson. Nat then then backed up and raced in A-Grade men for some extra course time as she looks towards a long European CX campaign at the end of this month. The Cycle Closet has come on board with some encouragement awards, with the "Best of the Rest" Voucher prizes delighting riders who had just missed out on podium positions! Congrats to Andrew Thomson, Annabel Cox, George Turner, Kara Turner, Adam Hughes and Jo Dettloff being the first receipients of the "Best of the Rest" prize.
The event receives great support from FOCUS BIKES, Zero Friction Cycling, Seight Custom Clothing, Cycle Closet and City of Adelaide and with one round remaining (24 Sept) in most grades the series can be won by anyone - the closest tussle is for CX A-Grade men with only two points separating current leader Tom Chapman from up and comer Max Hardy!
Live results/Animations can be found HERE. Sorry to the Junior race we didn't get your full results (they ended up doing a very fast + unexpected dirt crit!)
