Hockey SA Priority Athletes Programs

Hockey SA’s 2016/2017 Priority Athlete Program

Congratulations to Woodville juniors Amy Hammond and Aidan Schenk on their selection.

Information on the great program organised by Hockey SA below.

Hockey SA is pleased to announce the 2016/17 Priority Athlete Program (PAP) squad. The PAP is Hockey SA’s elite development program and underpins the current SASI hockey program.

The program provides athletes with two intense off-season blocks of training and targeted national’s preparation for U16-U18 state athletes. In 2016 four PAP athletes were selected in the 2016 National Futures squad, an achievement looking to be emulated in the coming years through this program.

The aim of the P.A.P program is to develop state identified athletes into SASI and potential nationally recognised athletes and will take an holistic approach in development with the aim to provide these selected athletes with assistance in:

·         Psychological development (load management, goal setting)

·         Strength & conditioning

·         Development of personal excellence (leadership qualities, ownership of individual development)

·         Personal support (workload management, feedback, development support, tournament preparation)

Athletes have been selected based on performance at National Championships in 2015 & 2016, in which Hockey SA’s High Performance Manager has received feedback from state program coaches and through viewing athletes at Hockey SA events including State Country Championships, Zone Championships and Development Athlete Program.

Athletes selected in the program will be selected for a full year period from October 2016 – September 2017 with an annual review held in September 2017.

In an exciting initiative the Priority Athlete Program will be participating in a series of matches against a Victorian academy in Mt Gambier. These matches will aim to provide 16-19 year old PAP athletes an opportunity to play high quality matches during the off-season.
