Men's Open Fours Carnival
Halls Head conducted a Men's Open Fours event on the 14th & 15th May, with 48 teams from local, South West, Wheatbelt & Metropolitan Clubs competing. The Major Sponsors were Mandurah Quay Resort, supported by City of Mandurah & SportFirst, who contributed to the over $10,000 prizemoney.
With over 18mm of rain falling over Friday night, weather looked like it may be unkind, but apart from a few showers temporarily disrupting play on Sunday, conditions were good and contestants enjoyed the concept of the competition. Results from Saturday's three games determined positions for Sunday, with four divisions of 12 teams ranked on their Saturday results, playing off on Sunday. Prizemoney was available over the four divisions, so even if a team did not get a good result on Saturday, they were still in with a chance on Sunday.
Of couse, all Club events like this rely on volunteer support, and the Ladies (& a few Gents) in the kitchen did a great job presenting Morning Teas, two lunches, Saturday Dinner & snacks after Sundays game. In the Match Office Patsy Smith operated her amazing computer program to present results promptly & displayed on the screens around the Club. She made Captain Doug Myers' work a lot easier. Bar Manager Norm had a lot of volunteer bar workers assisting in keeping contestants satisfied. The greens & grounds were well presented by the volunteer outside workers.
At the Presentations Men's Bowls Director Max Hughes & Club President Kevin Lobb were generous in their expression of thanks to the workers & floral presentations were made to Catering Organiser, Coral Anning & to Patsy Smith, with Captain Doug receiving a liquid bonus.
The Winners of the First Division were M. Simpson, J. Solly, R. Tyrrell & B. Garrett from Dudley Park.
Second Division Winners were S. Perica, S. Hughes, J. Anderson & P. Dawson from Manning/Cockburn.
Third Division Winners were P. Wachmer, D. Comrie, N. Bail & O. Sweetman, a Composite team, only the Skip was there for the presentation.
Fourth Division was won by the team from Port Bouvard, Skipped by N. Jamieson.
