27th Anniversary of Club Establishment.

Members may be interested to know, today is the 27th Anniversary of first Public Meeting convened to discuss the  formation of a Halls Head Bowling Club.

The Meeting was held at Glencoe Primary School at 7.30pm and attended by 110 people

Convenor Mr.Rick Francis introduced Mayor Bruce Cresswell, who announced that Council has set aside 2 Hectares in McLarty Road adjacent to the Sewerage Treatment Works

Council would support the development concept but limited to the provision of the land and a self-supporting loan

Motions were moved and carried that a Halls Head Bowling Club be formed utilising the McLarty Road site and that the new Club be known as Halls Head Sporting & Recreation Club.

A Steering Committee of 9 people were elected and it was agreed that a $50.00 Foundation Membership subscription  be initiated to provide funds for incorporation and setting up costs.

The grounds had been laid on 16th March 1989, for the commencement of a Bowling Club ,which in 27 years  now has the largest number of Capitated Bowlers in WA, total membership approaching 800 and an asset value exceeding $3.0 m

Current members may well wish to salute that Steering Committee of 1989 in acknowledging their vision, contribution and commitment towards their goal.”

Note: The Water Authority did not approve the establishment of the Club on the McLarty Road site, because of Health Regulations, so a new site was given on Sticks Road, Erskine, where the Club is now.
