So when the hardy PACC CX Setup crew rolled in to Park 24 (Not the Circus) with the fog, we were greeted by puddles large enough to house pairs of courting ducks. So the ducks were shooed away for a bit of privacy and we took full advantage of just about every puddle there - our first 'filthy' race this Winter.
We had a record pre-entry list, and with more people entering on the day over 140 people pinned a set of numbers to their back to challenge themselves against a course that had it all - mud, sand, bitumen, slimy grass, mulch and a small mountain of steaming soft turf wasted by the circus. Small steep pinches, fast flowy curves - and "It's my 7th birthday" CUPCAKE handups thanks to the 'Make Cross Weird' society (Happy Birthday to Miss 7 from PACC!)
It's been a ripper winter's racing - the final series points and a date for a pub night will be published soon (meet other riders and your friendly volunteers without a patina of mud!)
With such great numbers for our club racing we hope that everyone will sign-up for the upcoming National Cyclocross Series Rounds 7 & 8 on 29 & 30 August. We have got age group racing for everyone through from U9 to 65+ and everything in between, and Support Events for those of you who haven't managed to get yourself a CX bike yet. (hope you checked out the 2016 Focus Bikes CX range thanks to the Bike Station 352 Brighton Road, Brighton at the race today). If you're scared you won't be competitive don't be - at last weekend's National Cyclo-Cross Championships SA riders won a lot of categories so you're all better than you think - it's a rare chance to get a national medal (and for SA's women to show how it's done too - number of women outside of the Elite Categories have been very low interstate).
