Athlete Of Year Celebration

The 2014 Athletics Tasmania Athlete of the Year function was held on Saturday 16th August, this was achance for all involved in the sport to celebrate the wonderful achievments of our athletes of the past 12 months.
It was a full house with over 100 attendees allenjoying the humour of local Coach Wayne Mason as our MC.
Big winners out of the night were the locally based Stephanie Stigwood who took out the Open Women's category for two years in a row and Tristan Thomas whose performance in the 2013 World Championships 4x400m final did not go unnoticed.
Stigwood was a standout amongst the females thispast season with selection in the Australian World University games team, two open national medals and two Tasmanian Records.
The OVA star Race walker also took out the Women's Distance and Race walking category to make it back to back in both categories over the last two seasons.
Thomas however has now claimed six athlete of the year awards winning his third in a row, after what was an incredible run in last years World Championships Thomas was originally selectd in this years commonwealth games team but had to withdraw due to injury.
"I am so grateful for this award, I am so lucky to recieve the support I do from the Tasmanian Community" Thomas said.
"I unfortunately missed out on the commonwealth games but I still want to run fast times and believe that once fully recoevered I will be able to do so, I am looking to the future and hope to have a strong season next year".
Thomas is very supportive of all the other athletes who won awards on the night. "I hope I can make it down this year to be more involved with our future athletes and play a role within developing the current group of Tasmanian Athletes".
