Eddie McGuire steps down from AA Board

Athletics Australia can today confirm that Eddie McGuire has tendered his resignation from its Board of Directors after eight years of service to the sport of athletics.

After joining the Athletics Australia Board of Directors in March 2005, McGuire tendered his resignation on Wednesday, 4th September.

McGuire said his extensive business commitments had made it impossible to maintain the level of commitment that a director’s role demanded.

Athletics Australia President Rob Fildes OAM said athletics was grateful for McGuire’s tireless efforts on behalf of the sport over many years.

“Eddie has contributed considerably in the areas of media, sponsorship and general exposure of athletics to the community during his time on the Board,” Fildes said.

“He was instrumental in the securing of Qantas as our naming rights partner and in negotiating our free-to-air television coverage on the Nine Network.

“We are grateful for all his hard work and dedication in helping us improve athletics in Australia and we thank him for his considerable efforts during his eight years on the Board.”

McGuire’s resignation will take effect immediately.*
