Officials Education

Officials are an integral component of any Athletics event and we take pride in ensuring our Officials are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively officiate at any meet.

Below is a list of courses and seminars which are scheduled to be conducted throughout the year.  The aim of these courses and seminars is to up-skill current practicing officials as well as provide education for those who have no prior experience and want exposure to the world of officiating. Following successful completion you will be an accredited Athletics Australia Level C Official and will be eligible to earn cash as a Victorian Official.

National Accreditation Program

C Level

To achieve this level of qualification, there is a multiple choice, open book exam which is based on the IAAF Handbook. C Level qualification is the minimum required to officiate at State Championships or Athletics Australia events.

B Level

To achieve a B Level qualification, you will need to have held your C Level qualification for at least 12 months. The B Level test is a written short answer test. After passing the B exam you will be required to do 10 or 15 competition days of practical experience depending on the exam.

A Level

This is the highest qualification level in Australia. To achieve an A Level, you will need to have held your B Level qualification for at least 2 years. The exam is an in-depth written exam that tests knowledge of the rules, as well a person's ability to interpret the rules and make decisions about incidents based on them. Interpretation of the rules is a key part of being an event referee or chief. You will also be required to do 15 competition days of practical experience.
