Port Adelaide hosts the NCXS this long weekend

Port Adelaide CC is proud to host the opening round of the 2013 National Cyclo-Cross Series and FOCUS BIKES support events which gets under way in Adelaide on the June long weekend.  A host of Australia's best road and mountain bike riders have already confirmed for the second running of the exciting Series.

2013 will once again see three rounds contested in three states between June and August, opens in the South Australian capital on June 8/9 followed by a weekend on Sydney's North Shore in mid-July, with Melbourne wrapping up the Series on August 11.

2012 Series winners Adrian Jackson and Lisa Jacobs are confirmed starters for the Series, along with reigning cross country national champion Peta Mullens and former national mountain bike champions Andrew Blair, Chris Jongewaard and Rowena Fry.

“It (2012) was fantastic and I am certain it is only going to get bigger and better,” Jackson remarked.

In a major coup, Australian road cycling legend Robbie McEwen has entered the Port Adelaide CC rounds of the Series, although the three-time Tour de France points jersey winner admitted he was attempting a low-key entry.

"Busted - did stealth entry for the rAdelaide round of #ncxs National Series CycloCross June 8 & 9 for fun, but must train now. #wordisout," McEwen joked on Twitter earlier this week.

Cyclo-cross, or CX as it's known, has a long history in the mud fields of Europe and has also seen spectacular growth across the world in the past few years, including Australia.

It provides an exciting alternative to road and mountain bike races because of the shorter courses and races, with riders also forced to tackle various terrains including pavement, grass, mud and sand, all while negotiating obstacles such as rocks, steps and logs.  The thrills, spills and mud provide great entertainment for competitors and spectators alike.

Entries are open (CLOSE MIDNIGHT JUNE 4) for the opening round, with interested riders encouraged to enter quickly with fields limited of 100 for both Elite men & women.  *To enter the ELITE events click here*

The Port Adelaide CC rounds will also host the FOCUS BIKES Support Event options on both days for any rider - any age - any bike.  The 'Little Crossers' Kids will be the first to try out the track, with each child who rides getting entered in a draw to win one of two 20"/24" FOCUS BIKES.  The Mountain bikers, or any other bike that doesn't fall into the cyclocross category will be next, followed by the huge B-Grade and C-grade combined field.  Enter the support events here.  Yes, you can enter both the support events and the National CX Series races if you want extra race time. Entries for the FOCUS BIKES Support Events CLOSE MIDNIGHT JUNE 6 or you can decide to enter on the day.

There will be some great prizes, including two random draw 20" and 24" FOCUS kids bikes for the Little Crossers so get your entries in!

The Elite Women and Elite Men's races kick off 1pm and 2pm respectively.

Some tasty food vendors will be on-site to feed the hungry masses so come out make a day of it to support some great racing.
