Wallaroos men and women ........... 2015 Premier League Champions

02/08/15: Both the men and womens Roos teams put on outstanding performances to be crowned Premier League champions. In the womens game Arrows/Athletics scored the first goal however Roos fought back to win 3-1. In the mens game Roos were in front 2-0 at half time and were eventual winners 4-3 over Granville. Profile: Hannah Sanders ..... 11yrs old and selected in two Qld teams

10/07/15: Last month's Profile was about our youngest player, Mackenzie Quaill, and this month it is all about Hannah Sanders. Hannah is an 11 yr old girl who has exceptional skills for her age and has just been selected in two different Qld teams. Hannah will travel to Perth in Aug with the Qld Primary School team and then head to Sydney in Sept for the U13 National Championships. The MDHA is proud to have such a talented young player in our Association and we wish her all the best in her hockey career. We hope her dreams come true! U18 State Championships now over

07/07/15: Our men finished in 6th position and the women in 9th. This is a very good effort considering both teams were in Division 1 competing against much larger centres. Well done ..... Abby Heffernan

03/07/15: Abby was selected to umpire the U13 girls State Championship Division 1 Grand Final. This game went to a penalty shoot out in which Abby was the controlling umpire. She was awarded her Community Advanced accreditation and also was awarded the most improved umpire of the tournament. What a fantastic effort Abb. MDHA is proud to have a number a young umpires who put their hand up to take on umpiring duties at State Championships. A great achievement to you all!

U13 State Championships come to an end ...... Silver to the girls!

01/07/15: The U13 girls were defeated in the grand final to place 2nd it Div 2. Both the boys teams finished 5th in their respective divisions. Congratulations to Lara McKay, Hannah Sanders, Diarmid Chappell, Jayden Douma, Ryley Kroning and Jasper Wright (shadow) for their selection in the Qld teams. Roy Tucker also received his Community Umpire badge and Tarack Chappell had the honour of umpiring the boys grand final. Qld Primary School Champions ...... Wide Bay boys first and girls second

22/06/15: The boys and girls teams competed at the Qld Primary School Championships in Ipswich from Thursday 18 June to Sunday 21 June. The boys team won gold and the girls finished second. Congrats to Rose Elmer, Maddy Kenny, Annelyse Tevant, Hannah Sanders and Diarmid Chappell for selection in the Qld Primary School teams. 21/06/15: Tarack and Anniston Chappell were awarded their umpire badges at the Qld Primary School Championships at Ipswich. Anniston was awarded a Community badge and Tarack a Community Advanced Badge. Tarack was also chosen to represent Qld at the National Championships in Perth as their boys umpire. Maryborough - Wide Bay Champions (Zone)

10/06/15: All results from the championships are now in and Maryborough has been crowned overall champions. Maryborough won all the girls divisions of U11, U13 and U18 and the U13 boys. 08/06/15: Maryborough Hockey has just been announced winners of the 'Association of the Year for 2014'. This award was presented at the Hockey Qld Annual Awards Celebration in Brisbane last night. This success could not have been possible without the efforts of our volunteers. Our Treasurer Kathy Rogers must also be congratulated for her fantastic submission for this award. It was great that Kathy was at the Awards Night to personally accept this award. Congrats to Cody Fox - Community Advanced Umpire Accreditation

02/06/15: Well done to Cody for achieving his Community Advanced accreditation level at the recent State Masters Womens Championships at Murwillumbah. Cody umpired a number of games at the Championships and was practically assessed by Hockey Qld. Cody was also selected to umpire the Div 5 final at the Championships. Great work Cody!

Wide Bay Secondary schoolboys ....... Gold!

24/05/15: Congratulations to our Maryborough boys who won gold at the Wide Bay Qld Secondary School Championships at the Gold Coast. They won the semi final 4-2 and progressed to the grand final today to defeat South Coast 2-0. Well done to our boys Blake Kroning, Carter Chappell, Roy Tucker, Jack Elmer, Tarack Chappell, Keelan Goodall and Rhys McShane. Congrats also to Carter for selection in the U19 Qld team and Keelan as shadow. Jack was selected in the U16 Qld team and also player of the final with Roy a shadow. Great work boys!

Profile: Celie Hynes - Matriarch of all Hockey Families

17/05/15: Each month we will be doing a Profile on a member / team of our Association. This month it is all about Celie Hynes. Everyone involved in hockey would know of Celie Hynes, a legend in the MDHA hockey fraternity. In 2011 Celie was awarded an MDHA Service Award for her contribution to hockey. At 98 years of age you will still see Celie doing tech bench duties for her club Tinana, on a Thursday night for Masters, and sometimes on Saturdays for Div 3. Lighting Project ............ Final inspection and lights switched on

15/05/15: A final inspection was undertaken and the lights switched on. A big thank you must go to Peter Rook and Patrick Rogers for the work they did to make this happen. Thanks also to the many volunteers for their time and effort. Field 7 and 8 is now available for our hockey teams or other sporting clubs to use. Expressions of interest is now sought from anyone, club or organisation interested in hiring these fields. If interested please email mdha@bigpond.com. Bronze medal for Jessie and Shae U15 National Championships

19/04/15: Jessie and Shae Staples have won Bronze at the U15 Aust Cships at Gold Coast. They were 2-0 down at half time however Qld 2 came back to win 3-2 against WA. Tarack and Trent weren't as lucky in the U15 boys Cships in Hobart however Trent scored 2 goals and Tarack 1 goal in their 4-0 nil win over Tasmania in their classification match. Well done Bec ..............gold medal

17/04/15: Congrats Bec Greiner on your gold medal after defeating Victoria 4 - 0 in the final of the U18 Women's Australian Championships in Adelaide. Qld were top of their pool and to win the final by 4 goals is amazing. Bec also scored 4 goals in the tournament. Former Maryborough player Jess Switzer was also in this gold medal winning team. Premier League has started ..................... Roos women have a convincing 6-0 win

11/04/15: The first Premier League games were played Friday night with Roos having a convincing win over Uniteds 6-0. Roos are off to a great start this season being undefeated in the 3 games played and proving to be a hard team to beat. In other Premier League matches played Friday night Hervey Bay played Granville in the men in a very close hard fought match with Hervey Bay eventually winning 4-3. 06/12/14: The 2015 Qld U15 Men and Women's teams held a training camp in Maryborough over the weekend. 35 of the states best assembled in camp to hone their skills in preparation for the upcoming Nationals at Melbourne in January. Our U13 teams have returned from the State Team Challenge in Rockhampton after playing on 22 and 23 November. Both teams had great results with a number of our young players making Qld teams. SURVEY U7 and U9 ....... Results are in and decision made

19/11/14: The MDHA ran a survey to find out what you wanted for the U7 and U9 division in 2015. 30 responses were in favour of the proposal and 37 were against. 40 comments were also provided. At the MDHA meeting last night it was decided that the Draft Rookey proposal would not be adopted in 2015 - although there was not a big difference in those against to those for the proposal - it was the overwhelming message in the comments that in the end dictated which way our members want us to proceed in 2015. Playing together......................Myra and Keely Reilly

11/08/14: What an occasion for Myra and her granddaughter Keely to play in the same team together last Saturday in the Roos Div 2 team. It is not often that a grandmother and granddaughter get the chance to play in the same team! Keely who is now 13 years of age is following her grandmothers footsteps by being selected to play for Qld. Keely has recently been selected to play in the Qld U13 State team to contest the National Championships in Brisbane in October. Myra has just recently returned from playing in the Masters Qld team in Darwin. This is truly an occasion to be proud of.

03/08/14: Our 11 teams have just competed at the Southern Cross and Coulter Shield tournament in Brisbane on 3 August. What a performance by our girls No 1 team who were undefeated to win the Division 2 competition. The young No 2 girls team also put in a great performance against more experienced teams. Congratulations on Aust Masters selection.....Myra Reilly

23/07/14: Congratulations to Myra Reilly who has been selected in the O60 Aust Masters team following the National Championships in Darwin recently. This Australian team will compete in a tournament against New Zealand in Melbourne next year. Myra along with Di Fraser were part of the O55s Qld team winning a silver medal at the National Championships being narrowly beaten by NSW. Gloria Weller also competed in the O60s team who finished 4th. Well done Myra on your Aussie selection!

Great turn up at Junior Umpire Clinic 14/06/14

15/06/14: The MDHA junior umpire clinic was a great success with over 50 junior umpires attending. It was run by Stephen Chappell (umpire coach and manager for Hockey QLD) and Leon McKay, President of Brothers Hockey Club. Vicki Warren also took Carter Chappell, Abby Heffernan and Blake Kroning onto the turf to run down some of the tech rules in conjunction with shoot-outs. Mbro No 1 team - Qld State Masters Champions Division 1

05/05/14: Mbro No 1 were just too good for the Toowoomba 1 team to take out the State Championships in Division 1 with a 2-0 win. This team displayed tremendous skill and speed. Senior Women - finished 2nd in their pool at the State Championships

28/04/14 Update: After 3 days of games at the Gold Coast our Maryborough Senior women finished second in their pool. 16 goals were scored and only 7 goals against. This is a great effort by this team who improved in their overall standings from last year. For more details of the score and the scorers go the 'Representative Menu' then 'Rep info 2014'.

Hockey coverage on TV starts 1 Dec

Hockey fans are set to see a significant increase in the amount of hockey on TV in Australia thanks to a new agreement between ABC and the International Hockey Federation (FIH). It all begins 1 Dec with the Hockeyroos’ World League Finals campaign. ABC 1 will show every Australian match from Argentina on 'same day delay' with the International Hockey Federation's YouTube channel showing every match of the tournament live online. Congratulations to our Mbro teams for their great effort at this tournament on the weekend of 22 Nov. Our teams were extremely competitive with both teams finishing in fifth place. The boys competed against 11 other teams and the girls against 9 other teams. This is a great result considering Indoor Hockey is relatively new to Maryborough. U15 Indoor Hockey State Team Challenge

The Maryborough U15 girls and boys teams competed at the State Team Challenge in Brisbane on 9 and 10 November. The boys finished 3rd out of 12 teams and the girls finished 5th. Well done to both teams for this fantastic effort. Thanks to the coaches, managers and parents for making it possible for these teams to compete. Well done!

Selection Honours from the U18W State Championships.

Following the State U18W Championships in Cairns - 3 of our local athletes have gained selection in the Queensland U18W squad for 2014 - Congratulations to Jess Switzer, Lauren Scholl & Morgan Stephensen. Jess a goalkeeper was also named in the QLD/ U21W squad and will travel to Canberra in December as a member of the Futures Squad.
