Welsh 4th in World Media Race

Richard Welsh has placed 4th in the media race on day 3 of the 12 IAAF World Championships in Athletics at the Olympic Stadium in Beijing.

The traditional race is held over 800m at each world championships and this years event drew 104 entries, from dozens of nations.

With races ranked on personal bests and expected performances, much like Tasmanian interclub, Welsh was placed in the fastest of eight races.  To add excitement to the race, world record holder in the event Wilson Kipketer was also in the field, but clearly the great man wasn't showing any of his former top end form and happily jogged around.

Welsh's time of 1.59 placed him fourth behind the winner from France who ran 1.55, with the other placegetters being from Germany and the Czech Republic.
