MacFarlane 7th in Stuttgart

Beijing Olympian Donna MacFarlane has ended her 2008 International racing campaign at the World Athletics Final in Germany overnight.
The ‘WAF’ is the final major athletics competition on the International calendar, where athletes earn an invitation based on points accumulated throughout the year. A total of US$3 million was up for grabs in prizemoney at the elite meet.
MacFarlane was in the 3000m Steeplechase, where she placed 7th in 9:36.72. The winner was Olympic Champion and world record holder Gulnara Galkina who set a new championship record of 9:21.73.
The performance by MacFarlane shows she was in good shape and will finish the year as one of the world’s top women steeplechasers.
Last Sunday in Rieti, Italy, the TIS athlete placed 5th over the same distance, where she ran 9:44.29.
She will return to Hobart during the week, for a well earned break from travel, before beginning preparations for the 2008/2009 domestic athletics season.
