31 Jul 2008

Ogilvie High School took a clean sweep of this years Southern Inter High School Cross Country at Pontville today.

With eight events on offer, four boys and four girls, the all girls school of Ogilvie cleaned up the girls division, winning the grade 7 (Rimas Yousif) , 8 (Sarah Browning), 9 (Lily Salter) and 10 (Jayde Richardson) divisions.  Not only did they win each individual title, they took a clean sweep of the medals in the grade 8 and grade 9 races at the same time.  It went without saying that, that Ogilive High School won the overall girls division at the same time.

In the boys division, New Town High School won the shield yet again, with strong all round performances.  Particularly impressive was their depth in the grade 10 boys, where they occupied 5 of the top 6 positions.  Eventual victory in the interesting race went to Dejen Gebrselassie, showing he is keeping up the pedigree of his namesake Haile Gebrselassie, who owns the world record for the marathon.

Overall team points went to Taroona High School for the first time, following victory in the past 2 years by Clarence High School.

737 students from 23 government secondary schools throughout southern Tasmania took part in the event.
