Medal tally builds on Day 3

08 Dec 2013

Tasmania’s medal haul continued at the final day of the Australian All Schools Track and Field in Townsville today.

On his final day of all schools eligibility, North West distance runner Kale Adams won his second gold medal of the Championships, taking out the under 18 mens 3000m, to go with his 2000m steeplechase on Friday.

Adams has been one of Tasmania’s most consistent youth athletes in the past five years and he finished his schoolboy career in style today, winning with a sprint finish in 8:50.00.

The Mike Gunson trained athlete will now focus on the Tasmanian Christmas Carnivals, before gearing up for the Australian Junior Championships in March.

Hutchins sprint sensation Jesse Usoalii once again produced an outstanding performance in the final of the under 18 men’s 200m.  Usoalii clocked 21.39 (+1.4) to set a new under 18/19/20 state record and better the World Junior Championships qualifying mark in the process.

High jumper Mitchell Walker chose the right occasion to soar the highest he ever has to win the bronze medal in the under 18 men’s competition.  The former race walker cleared 2.04m, jumping to the top of the Tasmanian rankings for 2013.

Continuing the medals in the jumping events was under 16 long jumper Jack Hale.  His performance of 6.77m was good enough for a bronze medal.

Patrick Chilvers had a day to remember, setting a pair of personal bests.  He ran 7th in the under 16 200m final with 23.11, before sailing 6.21m to finish in the same position in the long jump.

In other highlights;

  • Alice Cox joined the list of PB setters for the day in coming 4th in the under 16 shot put with 13.73m
  • Hugh Nicklason continued his return to form with a 5th placing in the under 18 men’s 800m with 1:54.71
