Full Tasmanian Team for National X-C Champs

29 Aug 2013

Following on from the Tasmanian Cross Country Championships, Athletics Tasmania announce that the top 6 place getters from the open men’s and women’s race’s will represent Tasmania at the Upcoming National Titles.

“We have a very strong open men’s team with Dave Thomas coming off a terrific run at the state championships to continue his dominance in Tasmanian distance running.” Athletics Tasmania Chairman of Selectors Aaron Humphrey.

With Distance Running booming in Tasmania the rewards are now starting to be seen in the open age category as well as our strong juniors.

“The men’s team has a really good chance to replicate the efforts of the bronze medal team of 2006 when Tasmania last hosted these championships. Joining Thomas is 5 highly talented young men who amongst them have won local titles from Open 800m track Championship to the 2012 Point to Pinnacle”. Humphrey added.

“In the women’s event Jacqui Dalwood continued her excellent track and carnival performances with a dominating win in the women’s open race, with Jacqui’s recent form she will be looking for a top 20 finish”.

Additions to the initial team selected in the juniors include Inessa Corney who bounced back strongly from an illness which kept her out of the Tasmanian All Schools Trials. Corney will join her under 18 female team members and Thomas Snook of Launceston, who will run in the Under 20 men’s race after he won the 8km Tasmanian U20 Championship race.
