Tasmanian Secondary Cross Country Team Named

18 Jul 2013

Athletics Tasmania has today announced its initial team for the Australian All-Schools Cross Country Championships in Tasmanian next month.

To be held on August 31st and September 1st of this year, the initial team was selected based on their performances at the recent Tasmanian All-Schools Championships held at Symmons Plains Raceway, the same venue in which the nationals will be hosted.

“More athletes will be added to the team at conclusion of this month, but with very strong age groups, the Tasmanian team are looking at using the home ground advantage to try and snare many individual and team medals,” Athletics Tasmania Chairman of Selectors Aaron Humphrey said.

“This is a very strong team, including previous national medallists Getasew Ferguson, Tedros Gebrehiwot, Kale Adams, Hugh Nicklason, Biniyam Hagos, Julia Minucci, Tessa Johns and Claudia Nicklason, with many more in with a chance for national medals,” Humphrey added.

The Open and further under 20 selections will be made at the conclusion of the State Cross Country Championships, held at Pontville Recreation Grounds, on Sunday the 28th of July. This selection will also include the selection of underage athletes whom were exempt from Symmons Plains and also athletes who are away on holidays at the moment of this announcement.
