Primary Cross Country Team Announced

Last week saw 1880 students battle it out over 3 or 4km at the IGA Tasmanian Primary All Schools Cross Country, amongst them were a select few aiming to gain state selection for the Australian Cross Country Championships.

This year’s School Sport Australia and Athletics Australia Cross Country Championships will be held on that same course the students competed on last week at Symmons Plains in just over a month’s time on August 31st and September 1st.

The early selections will allow all 30 students to undertake some quality training time ahead of the national championships.

Athletics Tasmania's new Chairman of Selectors Aaron Humphrey said the team has lots going for it.

"We have two major advantages with this team.  The selection event last week was a mass participation event, so we had plenty of students competing for a place on the team.  Plus the national title is in our own backyard, so the students will certainly feel a bit of an advantage when they line up next month.
