IGA Tasmanian All Schools Cross Country

25 Jun 2013

Students from 130 primary schools throughout Tasmania will tomorrow descend upon Symmons Plains raceway.

Aside from the carpark, there won't be a car in sight however, with the venue being transformed into a cross country circuit for the IGA Tasmanian All Schools Cross Country.

The annual event has attracted 1750 students, in just four primary school age groups, 9 years, 10 years, 11 years and 12 year olds.  It's the highest number of participants ever assembled for the event, with a further 1300 expected for next Tuesday's secondary school day.  The previous record for the primary carnival was 1550 set just last year, with the event growing constantly for the past 10 years.

Tomorrow's carnival will also be used to select the Tasmanian team for the Australian Cross Country Championships on August 31, which will be held at the same Symmons Plains venue, with Tasmania selected to host the national titles.
