Primary Track and Field Team for National Champs Announced
GIRLS
Athletics Tasmania today announced the selection of a team comprising 20 girls and 17 boys to represent Tasmania at the School Sport Australia Primary Track and Field Championships to be held in Brisbane from 22 to 26 November 2013.
The selections were based on performances at the PSST State Primary Carnival and the AT Tasmanian Primary All Schools Meet which were both held at the St Leonards Athletics Centre in April.
Athletics Tasmania President Brian Roe said that it was pleasing to see 26 different schools represented in the team.
"With the 2014 Championships to be staged in Tasmania it is great that more schools will have an interest in the Championships this year," Roe said.
"Our aim is to work with the schools and Little Athletics Tasmania to ensure that we have a full team for the Championships when we host them next year. With PSST moving their state carnival to term one, it enables us to use that important competition as a selection event as well as our own trial competition, which will expose more young Tasmanians to the possibility of state representation in track and field."
Hobart's Hutchins School is the best represented with four team members, followed by Launceston's Trevallyn Primary and Scotch Oakburn College, each with three.
