MEDIA RELEASE

TASSIE TEAMS ANNOUNCED FOR ATHLETICS AUSTRALIA CUP

 

Athletics Tasmania today announced its teams to compete in Saturday evening’s Athletics Australia Cup in Brisbane. The Cup which was initiated in 2007 as a senior competition has now been expanded to incorporate an under 18 age category.

 

Tasmania competes in the senior competition in a combined team with South Australia but as a result of the State’s strong record in under 18 national teams’ competition it fields its own team in that division.

 

The Cup is contested across a selected range of events, with a points tally based on placings determining the result in each division. An interstate event for little athletics competitors will also be staged as a curtain raiser to the Cups.

 

The Tasmanian teams comprise:

 

SENIOR

Daniel Coleman (Old Virgilians) – Men 5000m walk

Todd Hodgetts (Newstead Harriers) – Shot Put

Melissa Kay (North West) – Women 100m

Grant Page (Northern Suburbs) – Men 1500m

Morgan Whiley (North West) – Women 400m

 

UNDER 18 – WOMEN

Sarah Browning (Old Virgilians) – 3000m

Lauren Free (Old Virgilians) – High Jump

Jessica Morey (Old Virgilians) – 800m

Kara-Lee Walker (North Launceston) – Javelin Throw

Hannah West (Sandy Bay) – 200m

 

UNDER 18 – MEN

Dominic Anastastio (Old Virgilians) – 400m, Long Jump

Phillip McConnon (Northern Suburbs) – 1500m

Huw Peacock (Eastern Suburbs) – Shot Put

Monbo Saccoh (North Launceston) – 100m
