Athletes named for Australian Age Athletics Championships in Perth

Athletics Tasmania today announced the first group of selections to represent the State at the 2013 Australian Junior and Age Athletics Championships which will be held in Perth, Western Australia from 12 to 17 March.

The 27 athletes are headed by 2012 Australian representatives Danielle McConnell, Mikayla Genge and Rebecca Direen and three medallists at last month's Australian Youth Olympic Festival - Hugh Nicklason, Jesse Usoalii and Kale Adams.

The Championships incorporate the selection trials for the 2013 World Youth Championships and as a result dual national under 16 champion from 2012, Claudia Nicklason will compete up an age group in under 18 in order to challenge for national selection.

Further athletes will be announced following the closure of nominations and next Sunday's second round of Statewide Interclub at Penguin.
