Two New Life Members Elected

03 Aug 2012

After 110 years of history, Athletics Tasmania awarded its 31st and 32nd life members on the weekend.

Helen Lee and Wayne Mason (OAM) were unanimously voted in as life members of Athletics Tasmania, following the associations AGM at Pontville on Saturday.

 Helen began her involvement in 1984, when her children signed up with the Howrah Little Athletics Club.  Her family joined the Eastern Suburbs Athletics Club in 1989 and in 1991 she became an active member of Athletics South.

 A regular team manager for state teams, Helen has also been instrumental in delivering many national events, including the Australian Cross Country Championships in 2006 at Pontville and the Australian All Schools in 2009 at the Domain.

Perhaps best known as one of the countries top officials.  Helen was appointed as Post Event Control Manager for the 2000 Olympics, 2001 Goodwill Games, the 2001 IAAF Grand Prix Final, the 2006 Commonwealth Games and a long list of Australian Championships and Tour Meets in between and since.

In 2010, Wayne Mason received an Athletics Australia Platinum Service Award, recognising 40 years service to the sport of Track and Field.

A dedicated club athlete, Wayne was a regular sprinter at competitions throughout Tasmania.

Often serving on various club and coaching committees, Wayne was also the Development Officer for Athletics Tasmania and newspaper contributor on athletics to the Mercury.

 More recently, his efforts have been focussed around coaching, with much success.  His charges have won numerous state titles and now even national titles, particularly with junior athletes.

Both Helen and Wayne join an illustrious list of Athletics Tasmania life members, which includes;
